BBC timeslots are given to the programme than for adverts, compared to the commercial boradcasters... Exactly. That's half the reason like the ABC(And to an extent foxtel). Not one advert in any show. Foxtel would have only about 1 advert and even then it's only about shows on the same channel or another channel. Very rarely does a ad get played(about 1 every 10 ad breaks). Compaired to Free to air which tries to cram 50 million ads in 30 mins. I rather like our system. The Federal government gives ABC funding. So really our taxes pay for 2 TV stations, 5 National Radio stations and 50 Local radio stations.

I'd call that fairly clean compared to some of ours.

At my Local Station in the mornings the Xpresso on time opens from the first train(5:18 City Loop(Soon to be the 4:38 City Loop) to around 9AM and the station Master sells soft drinks. Other than that there is a Drinks and a snack machine which sometimes don't give you anything and Steal your money. Most stations have snack machine on them. Flinders has a kiosk on Platfroms 6/7. Melb Central has the Shopping Centre's food court out the front of the Swanston Street exit.

I think they have a bad rap only because of a minority that think the rules are joke and think they can photogrpah anywhere and scream abuse when they are told off from AO's/Station Staff/Police or fined for that matter. On the other side of the fence some rail staff need to know the rules before mouthing off. I've read stories of Staff (Weather it was transit officers, Station Staff, train crew) Claiming that it is against the law to do that or that they have to delete thier photos(to which the reply has sometimes come from railfans "what rule/ regulation are you acting under). There are rules set out for this by the means of (For instance Connex) Permits.
By no means both sides are perfict. But they do need to co-operate with each other. Both sides have a minority that don't know the rules.

I think it is when there is no standing and sitting space left and passengers cannot board the train.

Sounds like it will be a good Christmas present for the city. Although to do 78KM's in 48 minutes from Mandurah to Perth is impressive.

I was down at the station a while ago and this 3 car train on Driver training pulled in. If a in service train arrives most of the time an announcement plays(somtimes it plays and a train flies through the station or nothing). Anyway the train stopped and sat there as it would and this passenger walked up and tugged on the door handle. They horn blew and the train took off(with the passenger out of the way). Rather amusing.
