When i was a lad!! back in the 50's i used to live near Picketts Lock SB where the four track section Started. There is a brook running on the east side about 10ft from the SB track which would have precluded any four track further north. From Ponders End onwards building and Bridges/LC etc also made it impossible. Since the four track section was removed ( late 60's?) a relief road has been built to the east of the still existing brook from the North Circular to Ponders End. Also more building has gone on north of here which makes it a rather big job should they wish to extend it to Broxbourne. The third track is only going to go to Angel Road, if i have read the notices at Northumberland Park Stn, but as i wont be going there for the next 12 months i cannot give you any updates, but in May it seems there was some scrub clearance going on. Also Park LC is to be closed. ( Oh might have an update Monday as taking BiL to see the New White Hart Lane football ground.)

Apologies if it reads like a GCE maths question

Not on film, but I used to enjoy the one on the side of a lineside house in Whitehall Gardens, Chingford (approaching the station) that advertised Low houses in Loughton and Chingford for sale from £475 freehold, even in the early 90s at those prices it must have been the 1890's.

Norbiton, Thanks for the link. Very interesting rerading and once i sm up to date on my Trolleybus book collection!" will certinly put that on m to get list.It seems a pity that those two capital books never had a Vol 2 to cover the A/C/D and at a pinch The S stock. along with all the tube stock inroduced since then. even it were just the one book,or pad it out with service stock l. Transport for the future. Happy Daysocos etc. The number lists brought back many happy memories when i was in the 'spotting' phase of my life, if it had wheels and a number, it went into a book, and that included planes. My one abiding memory of the early 'standard' stock was at Wood Green bsack in 1959, when we used to spend dinner hour from school spotting, and sometimes venturing as far north as Arnos Grove!. One dinner hour i made it to Green Park and back with a stack of US car showroom brochures as proof. However the best memory was one of our school mates who lived at Finchley and used the 38 stock on the Northern. He was not impressed with the 'old junk' we had but used to regale us with his tsles of how he used to run at the double doors and time his run to get through as they began to open. However he knew not of the central pillars on our line. Never seen a guy bounce back so far. Never did it again. Being Hauled by the Met Electrics from Liv St to Harrow and back, the 'quaint old stock' of the District and those lovely looking P and R stock, the F stock that was rapidly going, and they were a ride! And i can recall the central platform at KX, never saw a train in it though, travelling on a Twin Rover on the Bakerloo up to Watford and back getting all the LMS stuff coming down to Wembley for the England Scotland games and the FA cup and Rugby League finals. Two regrets Not keeping the IA books of the period and not having a camera. And Thanks for area site and info on it

Reading the Capital paperback books on the early stock on these lines, it mentions that some of them were 'unsuitable' for running on the surface lines. no reason being given. The only thing i can think of is no windscreen wipers, or is there another reason?

Arun your post brought back memories. Went to School in Wood Green 58-63 ans spent a while 'spotting' at Wood Green UG stn. kept on swapping bewteen platforms to get the 'incoming stock' until we saw the 'outbound' of it then stayed on the i/c side. Yes every train was a surprise, and when plane spotting was included ( if it had wheels we made a note of the number!!) the overground part from Barons court to Hounslow West and then an 81B bus to heathrow central ,special through tickets IIRC from Wood Green. The District line formations had us ecstatic. Only thing missing was a decent camera,or indeed a rough one!

If money was no object in restoring to line use, is there enough CO/CP R stock around to make a running train feasible?
Next in the dream sequence Building an F stock from scratch!!!
Oh the memories of youth
The Q stock project sounds nice

I read the question as not going out of a station.eg not passing through a card reader. The Waterloo run is a bit of a schlep as is the W=C to DLR Not done any KX changes yet but from what i have seen on here and other sites they are horrendous.
So are there any rat runs that the great unwashed can use legally to shorten any treks?

Snoggle, According to this map from Crossrail it will not carry on to Northumberland Park. So a change at Tottenham Hale, like now, will still be required. Perhaps someone will bring the coffee to the Crossrail planners and they could have a 'light bulb' moment Here is the link crossrail2.co.uk/the-route/

With the advent of the New Spurs ground of 60k+ and being used for the NFL games, why hasn't someone had a lightbulb moment and suggsted extending it to Northumberland Park? either that or putting in a island platform at the side of the Depot for the Victoria line? After all it happened with CR1 when they realised it would be a great idea to move the West terminal from Maidenhead to Reading, logical and better for interchange. Still i am not paid 40k a year to examine my navel fluff and not see the bleeding obvious.

Coming in from Heathrow this morning, as we were passing Northfields there was some stock, that didnt look like the normal Piccadilly stuff. Windows seemed to be different, and there were 3/4? cars. these were situated at the West end of the depot and on the lines nearest to the running lines. I quite possible mistook them for normal stuff,It was a very quick glance, but could anybody put me out of my misery if they were some sort of departmental stock.
Thsanks

I have just wasted 30 mins of my life trying to do this, and ended up going round in circles via their switchboard does anyone have a number i can get through on rather than the merry go round that is 0343 2221234 and 0343 222 0000 I wish to suggest a name for one of the proposed tunnelling machines to be used on the northern line extension and have a great 'hook' and PR coup for them. so can anyone help please?
Oh i might add that up until this attempt i have found everyone who is customer facing on the Oyster line without exception to be the most helpful and polite bunch i people i have had the pleasure to deal with. They are a credit to TfL.. But as always the PR Dept always screws it up!!! you would think they should know better

One of our deceased members has left the club some signs
One which needs a bit more info is a sign which, i would guess is a destination sign used on the front of units
It has East Ham on one side and Ealing on the other It looks to be maroon coloured and measures about 15 in by 4 inches
Other clues are that it would seem to be slid into place as there are two thicker strips at each end
Pictures are available if reqd
Any initial thoughts?

Last year ( Aug) i did as i do every year. Renewed senior railcard and on arrival at a manned LU (Hillingdon) station, the clerk validated the oyster card to recognise is was a 'Senior'
This year as things are going There will not be a manned station at any of my normal start stations.
Question is How will i get it vaidated without having to go to one of the few stations that are left?
Or Hasnt Boris's elves not thought that far forward

I managed to get a good look at one of the C stock whistles on Sat at Edgware Rd.
The are a lot bigger thn i thought esp in the girth depth. Looks like the possiblility is now a non goer, due to the diameter, length is ok, but it would take up a lot of the coal/water space
Anyway, Thanks for all the input, it certainly got the brain cells working on it for a while

I remember the Met Electrics running into L Street bay and the loco headshunt..Going on a Twin Rover and the T stock from Baker street, plus the wonderful F stock on the East London line. IIRC the bay line was still in situ at Kings Cross, but out of use for passengers, although i am sure i did see some stock stabled there back in 1959/60.

Thanks, i got in contact with Knights and they 'cannot' sell as they only dismantle!!! It should work as the boiler is pressed at 100 psi. Now any idea who i contact in Tfl, the site is very vague Acton Works manager? Someone with a spanner who works there and will exchange one for 'a drink' ehem ehem. Not that i condone such an action
