You'll find that it's more infrastructure / freight problems than LOROL problems, but every day customers don't see it like that unfortuneatly.

There's no "rotation" so to speak, all units based at Willesden will work over all routes.

I believe they were wrapped at New Cross Gate then transferred back to NLL

That is correct. Speaking to driver managers on rideouts, it has been said that it will be the Clapham trains that go through to Highbury, I think also that is why at the moment the announcements at Canonbury say "Change here for services to Richmond and Stratford" completely ommitting Clapham Junction.

I don't think anyone knows for certain yet, however I heard that it will be the New Cross and Crystal Palace trains terminating at Dalston Junction.

Not so good for us ELL drivers, going to be wonderful chasing yellows/reds constantly in the core section!

Just as the doors close and interlock is achieved the guard notices that a lady outside, who tried to race on, has got her coat stuck in the door. The driver has interlock so what is the guard going to do? Yell at her to take it off? Activate the passenger alarm? OR with the bell buzzer, release the door, close it THEN tell the driver it is safe to proceed?

This was only brought in so that drivers had internet access in the Dalston Junction messroom (the prison)

Most drivers are taught to put the TBC into Brake Step 3 and neutral when stopped at a station. Once interlock has been achieved, there is a delay when putting it into 'forward' and releasing the brakes and taking power. The trains don't respond instantly I'm afraid!

Well let us hope that all the traincrew are going to informed of this, i wont hold out for it but i can hope. This was from a brief put up on notice board in depot and also put into our pigeon holes at the beginning of the week at NXG. Surely you guys at Willesden must have seen it by now?

A software upgrade is currently being undertaken across the 378 fleet. The door close button will now be almost completely inoperative for customers. This is due to many incidents in which customers have pressed the close door button, either on purpose or by accidentally leaning on it, and making the doors close on alighting passengers. Also, before the doors would try to close 5 times if there was an obstruction, this is being reduced to two before it cuts out and remains open. The close door button will then only be activated in this situation.

There has been murmurs of stabling some units at Clapham Junction, so this may be part of that perhaps?

Our messroom is on P5, we can hear the tannoy and it has said "London Overground" since I started there in 2010.

This was briefly touched on in the "Shiny New 378s" thread. 21 units are used in the current timetable. I do think that either New Cross frequency will be dropped or a couple of units from Willesden will have to come over or both! (all currently speculation although I've heard the New Cross rumour a few times).

I'm pretty sure it has always said "London Overground". It's just on the core section that it doesn't use this.

We have a "line" indicator, which is lit when the train is drawing current through either source. On the left hand side panel, there are two areas, an "AC System Control" and a "DC System Control". To select either mode, we press the button under the flap, this then lights up and can be seen through the holes.

Since the new timetable in December '11, 21 units are currently required to run a full service on the East London Line. This includes two units for the weekday morning "PIXC Busters", they sit spare in the depot until the evening once the morning rush is over. I'd imagine we'd need four units for the SLL, so that would leave 2 units spare or for maintenance. This is as long as there still will be four trains per hour to all destinations.

I'm amazed at how quickly this is progressing, well it is only a 1.2km stretch of new track but still a lot quicker than I thought it would take. Conductor rails are now in place on most of it.

Could have been a number of different things. If it left in service then it was a minor fault and not something to worry about. Non issue really.

1) 21 units are required to cover all diagrams, with at least one hot spare in the Berthing Sidings ready to come out if required. There are 25 units based at NXG at the moment, 135 through to 154, and as of Saturday when I was last in, 233, 234, 255, 256 and 257. This then allows 3 others to be under maintenance etc.
2) 378/0 were dual voltage 3 car units. These no longer exist. 378/1 were always 4 car DC only. 378/0 then became 378/2 once they had an extra carriage added.
3) Platform 2 at the moment is used for New Cross trains terminating at Dalston and then becoming ECS back to the depot. You can see these late in the evening, the CIS screen above will show "Not In Service...........25mins" etc. Also the new weekly two morning PIXC busters terminate in Platform 2, then ECS back to depot.

See 378driver's post #3, it is now the norm to do a rolling changeover. We are taught in our training on 378s that the bang is caused by the VCB. The other thud you will hear is actually the MCBs closing when going into DC mode. You can hear this on the ELL at Surrey Quays on the down (towards New Cross Gate). For some reason it trips out there!

As an ELL driver it is appreciated and you are most welcome!
Crinet, on the ELL there's usually a GSM-R prerecorded broadcast a few stations before announcing if there's any suspension or disruption and to give an announcement, not sure on the NLL with conductors but probably on their smartphones yes, or driver passing on the message.

You'd be surprised at how many people put their feets on the seats on a 378 too! They sit sideways and have their feet on the seat, as if it's a chaise longue. It's usually teenage girls that I have to *politely ask* to desist! Funnily enough it's also usually when it's been raining outside and their feet are wet!

Generally there's no problems with vandalism, there was a case of some large graffiti on a 172 at Gospel Oak Tuesday, but it was cleaned and back in service Wednesday morning (LOROL get massive fines for any graffiti or vandalism, so it's very rare to see any now!). You do see the rare scratches in windows but not much.
