At long last, automated station announcements for the southbound Platform 1 a year after the ELL extension opened!
The only problem is they don't seem to work when the train pulls in or is at the platform, unlike the Southern services from Platform 2.

They've been there since I've been driving from December. You are on about the "The train approaching platform 1, is the 15:52 London Overground service to Crystal Palace" etc?

Fair enough, you are forgiven! Now it will be big news when they actually get a CIS screen for platform 1! We are told that it will be coming in very soon as part of the next phase of works, which will also include redoing the Dalston Junction CIS too.

I take it Platform 1 will get the standard LO CIS as on the core ELL stations? I noticed NXG is also the only ex Southern station which doesn't use the old Southern ticketing equipment at the ticket office, which means Oyster can be registered along with photocard data. Unfortunately for those of us who are on the ELL south of NXG, we're stuck in the dark ages as LOROL said at the time it wouldn't be cost effective to replace the equipment.

Are you saying that after a year the automated announcements now include the words 'London Overground service to"? All I've heard recently is "The train now approaching platform 5 is the 15:52 _____ Highbury & Islington" etc.

Are the automated announcements for P1 being controlled by Southern who operate P2-5?

New Cross Gate do run the same system as the rest of the ex-Southern stations, Shere Smart. It is not possible to register any railcards to Oyster here. There used to be a non-revenue FasTIS machine, but it was removed in around 2007, when the LU ELL closed. I imagine the CIS screen on Platform 1 will be of the same stock as the rest of the station, as to conform to the same standards and software... unless they plan to redo the whole station... and I'm pretty sure that's not on the cards. It would be pretty silly installing a new CIS with new software, etc, for just ONE platform.

Oh right, how come in that case they give paper receipts like Surrey Quays where as Forest Hill will print the receipt on a train ticket? TfL's own website also says that Oyster cards can't be registered south of NXG.

Forest Hill now do them on paper, rather than tickets too. The printers are being brought into use along the line.

Are the automated announcements for P1 being controlled by Southern who operate P2-5? Having used NXG both yesterday and today I can confirm.... Announcements on P1 are made by a female voice "The train approaching platform 1 is the 13:54 London Overground service to Crystal Palace." Announcements on P5 are made by a male voice "The train approaching platform 1 is the 14:00 ___ Highbury & Islington" Simon

Good to hear this screen is now installed and working, thanks 378driver for confirming this is functioning. And management were only told about this nearly a year ago ..... Well done LOROL, TfL, Network Rail, only 10 months late. New X Gate still looks a bit scruffy, and very scruffy outside. And TfL has yet again goofed up with its signage. Stand outside after dark and can you read the station sign ....... No it's almost illegible as the street lighting is high pressure Sodium, light orange colour so there is no colour contrast. Users pointed this out at an early stage, and the orange and black signs emerged during 2008. TfL were duly informed that the revised signs were much better, more readable etc. But the legible 'Temporary Signs' have gone ..... This format is based on DLR signs, with white lettering against the corporate turquoise background colour. Turquoise under sodium lighting goes to a much darker colour so the contrast is satisfactory. The orange / white signs are legible under strong white light as several signs mounted under the canopy at NXG and several other stations show. But with Sodium lighting its a no no! Again who went back to the original spec without contacting the disability lobby, who don't like the white lettering either. With NXG's entrance lobby and the station exterior still looking tatty, some more work is needed to bring these nooks and crannies up to TfL standards.

And also, the audio announcements on P5 now actually include the words 'London Overground' as in "The train now approaching platform 5 is the 11:54 London Overground service to Highbury & Islington".

I'm pretty sure it has always said "London Overground". It's just on the core section that it doesn't use this.

The addition of the words 'London Overground' for P5 is a recent thing, see some of the other threads in this section.

The addition of "London Overground/Southern would like to apologise" appears to be a more recent addition to stations south of NXG.

The addition of "London Overground/Southern would like to apologise" appears to be a more recent addition to stations south of NXG. I noticed this recently as well. Is this purely to make it clearer which service is running late, or is there an aspect of 'taking responsibility' for lateness to it?

Only recently has it started saying London Overground. Previously it would be something like "the next train to arrive at Platform 5 is the 0946 Highbury & Islington"
