A Stock is being replaced first due to their status as the oldest stock and the spiralling costs of maintaining them. It's the right decision - the real question is why it wasn't done 10-20 years ago.

I would love to see Picc Circus retiled too.
Passengers may only be in a station for a few minutes, but a grubby, worn down station gives an impression of a system that doesn't take pride in its appearance. This feeds through to passengers who are then less likely to treat the system well (feets on seats, and far worse etc)

if you think how much money was wasted pointlessly refurbishing some stations and trying to replicate... in some cases poorly, the Yerkes stations, you do tend to wonder who authorised the workmanship to be signed off. I don't think Yerkes or even Leslie Green would be too happy with the work at some of the stations that have been refurbished in a pastiche style. Yes, the Central London Railway was not a Yerkes tube, but I was certainly not impressed with Lancaster Gate. Holland Park still retains some original features, the biscuit coloured tiles date from about 1948. Always found the station to be a bit dreary... The non-refurbished Central Line stations are grubby and reflect badly on the tube and London as a whole. It's a such a shame Holland Park wasn't done- it now sticks out like a sore thumb when travelling through the central section of the Central line. Personally, I think the "vents" above the platform friezes at refurbished stations look really good - modern, but unobtrusive.

Went through the southbound platfrom on the Northern line yesterday. The metal barriers are now gone. The walls have been stripped bare, with the horrid 1980s tiling and signage gone (hooray!) - presumably a more modern finish will be applied in due course. For better or worse, the Paolozzi murals are still in situ.

I do like the refurbs they've done at other stations though, my local station Brixton has had a nice refurb job. Not sure it was worth the 10 year wait though!

It may also affect TfL's travelcard and payg revenue if people start switching to Chiltern.

It's never too difficult to express a little courtesy and concern.
These trains are public assets paid for by taxpayers and hence belong to *all* of us - reports of damage to them should be taken seriously.

As it would cost so much to dig a new lift shaft at Shepherd's Bush, perhaps in the short-term step free access could be more easily provided at White City? Its next to the western side of Westfield's shopping centre, opposite the BBC and of course has interchange with the already step free accessable station at Wood Lane. Shepherd's Bush itself isn't too far away either. It seems a shame that the old CLR building was pulled down only for the station to open with no step free access anyway. The old building was actually quite spacious inside and with some re-modelling and refurbishing it could have been made fit for purpose for the slightly increased demand since 2009. I remember the old building being pretty cramped compared to the new building, which admittedly looks a bit silly with the huge space next to the escalators - presumably the long term plan is to add more at some stage? I have to stay that demolition of the old building was definitely the right decision. Demand at SPB has not "slightly" increased - more like doubled since Westfield opened in 2008. And there wasn't anything remarkable about the old station building - certainly nothing you can't find at other tube stations. The station's heritage features were mostly destroyed by the 1980s refurbishment in any case.

The FCC press release also says that a new ticket hall is opening at Farringdon. They can't have finished it already. Farringdon has weekend closures going on until at least Feb according to TfL. Can only presume this is in part for the new ticket hall and associated works. Anyway, will be great when Blackfrairs re-opens. Combined with the new NR station, a great many journeys from South London and beyond will become a lot easier. Until they start terminating all the Wimbledon loop trains at Blackfriars, at least...

"So delivery from Cravens in Sheffield via Ruislip Depot was presumably via North Acton (reverse), Ealing Bdy (reverse), Acton Town (reverse), Rayners Lane (reverse) to Neasden Depot?"
No, they were delivered via the Great Central line, which still existed in the early 1960s.

Deliveries have really slowed down according to the chart - only 3 since June when previously we were at one per fortnight! There's still 4 more to arrive. Is this because Bombadier is prioritising production of S Stock?

As has been explained multiple times on this forum, extending the W&C is simply not an option. Central line is in the way at Bank, and the tunnels point the wrong way at Waterloo.

Hull Trains are specially scheduled to maximise their ORCATS allocation by raiding East Coast. They also get lots of income from Advance sales.

I find it hard to believe the cost of installing SFA at Pimlico could ever be justified. It's by far the quietest of the Victoria line stations. (which presumably also explains why it hasn't been refurbished) In fact, I often wonder if it even gets enough footfall to justify it being open at all - given the delay stopping there causes to those travelling between the hubs at Stockwell, Vauxhall and Victoria.

Thanks for info on 11001-11004 Seems a waste to scrap originals! We've been through this before (conversation now deleted) - basically there were so many modifications made to the production 09s from the original design that it was more cost-effective to scrap and rebuild T1 and T2 than modify them!

I presume I'm the only one on these forums that's actually happy to be seeing some of the A-Stock's departing on their final journey to Northwood Sidings? I would much rather have an S-Stock than an A-Stock for journeys any day... On this forum, yes. As part of the general public, no

Cityboy is correct, they are multi-purpose areas. However, the RVAR regs mandate that a certain amount of wheelchair spaces are provided on new stock. It is quite interesting that the only stations marked as wheelchair friendly on the Vic are Tottenham Hale, Kings Cross and Brixton (which is possibly why there are not many wheelchair users travelling on the Vic). The interchanges at Stockwell, Oxford Circus, Euston, Highbury and Finsbury Park are all step-free, though, which is useful for people in 'chairs.

Euston Square definitelty needs a restoration or rerfurb. As I've said before it's now probably the grottiest station in Zone 1.
And the 1970s designs at Heathrow T123 need to go - they're an outdated embarassment given the station is the first sight many will have of the UK. If they must be preserved then do it at Hatton Cross.
