Surely by now the new trains for the Piccadilly will have been specified and it would make no sense to buy new trains if they don't also come fitted with a TBTC system which is fully compatible with the TBTC being used on the SSR line. So why oh why are they not busy extending the current SMA list to cover the entire Met and District line routes and also the whole Piccadilly line route with the eventual intention of ensuring that the same TBTC system is progressive rolled out across the entire Underground network so that it is ready to use as and when new rolling stock is commissioned. The first Piccadilly 2024 Stock is not due to arrive until 2024 and expected into service in 2025. By that time S Stock will have been fitted with their version CBTC for 8 years. Technology moves very fast, and by 2025 the SSR CTBC may well be seen as outdated. Which is why the Piccadilly system has not been funded yet. As when it is, a completely updated metro train signalling system may be available, from a number of different manufactures. Possibly why the Central Line didn't adopt the Victoria Line version of ATO?

I was informed on Tuesday that there’s a chance that the Waterloo & City will go back to normal services from October. Has anybody else heard this? The 4-train M-F all-day Timetable Notice 176/21 is dated 6 September 2021 but is awaiting a start date.

Will the stock end up being called NTfL in the end? Or are they going to call it 2023 stock per the old numbering system or similar? For the Piccadilly Line trains the designation is 2024 Tube Stock A roadshow is now moving around Piccadilly Line trainstaff depots showcasing trial drivers cab seating, with different cushion and back designs to gauge driver favourites. Confirmation in the posters shown of the “2024TS” or “24TS” designation and that only half the fleet will be built in the UK.

At Parsons Green, will there be the ability to run in and out of the new yards from Fulham Broadway? Currently when Parsons Green is used to terminate trains that are put away in times of disruption, the process seems quite slow as often both directions are blocked to stop and reverse a train into the yard. If ever Stamford Bridge becomes a 60,000 seat stadium (unlikely even medium term as they've just spent money on new safe standing seats), Fulham Broadway starters and terminators would be helpful in clearing the crowds. Unfortunately not, the new sidings are aligned as the current ones. There will however be a new diamond crossing just east of the station, which will allow access into/out of the new and existing sidings from both platforms. Would the loss of stabling capacity at Lillie Bridge finally provide the impetus to crack on with Farringdon City Sidings? These projects are separate, Lillie Bridge gives up 12 stabling roads, to be replaced with 6 new at Parsons Green and 6 new at Chiswick Park/Turnham Green.

Is one of the new roads on the eastbound side an extension of the current siding? Or are they both new roads that will require construction of a viaduct alongside the current tracks EB side existing double-length 25/27Rd (known as 27 top and 27 bottom) remains between the stabled trains will be a set of points leading to new single-length 26Rd and 26A Rd.

On the same tangent, have TFL worked out how the wheelchair arrangements will apply at the curved platforms at Waterloo, because it looks like a nightmare waiting to happen. That being said, the arrangements at Bank when the 1992 stock get their wheelchair spaces will probably be even more torturous. Those stations/platforms are not available as step-free, so wouldn’t expect wheelchairs to be either getting on or off.

I find it odd that the planned closure from 8 to 9 January 2022 is only between Stepney Green and Barking, but not on the District line (which should be Stepney Green to Becontree). Also odd enough that it's also a SMA5 closure. Are they planning to test how SMA 5 integrates with SMA 6 on the H&C only (thereby excluding District line from the closure, which doesn't make any sense since District line would disrupt the orderly flow of trains)? 8/9 January is the standby date for SMA 5 commissioning if it’s put back from November. It is not the SMA 6 commissioning date. Too early to say what will be planned/happening in January at this early stage

I have to admit that the District eastbound at Hammersmith that I was forever whining about has improved beyond all recognition since re-signalling. It now tells you which train is coming next and how long it will be, rather than the randomly appearing Upminster train that never came. The Hammersmith area hasn’t yet been re-signalled, only thing in recent years has been transfer of control to the Piccadilly Line at South Kensington.

With hindsight and the problems with motors falling off the trains which replaced the 1962ts fleet in mind, many would say that its a shame that near-identical trains were not built again to replace the life-expired 1962 fleet. Unfortunately crash worthiness, fire regulations, technology enhancements and driver ergonomics would probably have prevented that

There are also some trains early/late that run to/from West end of Lillie Bridge from Ealing Broadway, although westbound they enter service at Barons Court and eastbound detrain at Hammersmith, I still think there's less empty running if the trains are at Chiswick Park. How would trains from the new Turnham Green/Chiswick Park sidings get access to the Ealing branch? The sidings will be on the westbound/down side and must run to Gunnersbury first, then eastbound to West Kensington as a minimum.

Are there enough spare levers in the 2 IMRs at Parsons Green for the new sidings. This will also require alterations to the desk that controls Parsons Green area in Earls Court signalling control room. If the Signal Migration Area 05 is commissioned in late 2021 or early 2022 . The Parsons Green desk will be the only one left in Earls Court I would guess the new sidings and commissioning of the truncated SMA 12 will be timed together, so that legacy signalling and Earl’s Court would not require modification

There will be additional roads created on both sides with 1 additional road on the WB side next to the current siding Thought it was 2 new roads on the WB side, one being double-length (32 33Rd) and one 7-car (34Rd), current 28Rd also extended to double-length (30Rd)? 6 new berths in total

Has SMA12 'lite', Fulham Broadway to East Putney been formally accepted as the replacement for a full SMA12? Would it make sense to bring that piece online before the official timeline of SMA12, as only a small addition to SMA5 once that is live? The SMAs will still be commissioned in order, 5 will not be extended. SMA 12 may well wait until the new sidings and crossover to the east of Parsons Green are ready

As far as I could tell, the only thing that needs to be done to open the main (Whitechapel High Street) entrance would be to take the hoardings down and perhaps a bit of tidying up - way less than a two day job. On the platforms, remove the last of the temporary lighting masts, temporary scaffolding towers holding up the temporary cable ducting, fill and retile the holes left. Remove the temporary signage.

What is the reason for the West Ham to Tower Hill shut this weekend? Not a 4LM matter. So that Whitechapel station can have it’s long closed Whitechapel Road entrance/exit reopened and new Durward Street access opened. The temporary building on Court Street has now closed and the hoardings are being removed for reopening on Monday.

Does that mean Piccadilly line trains can't serve District line stations anymore during closure? (Well at least for Chiswick Park and the odd Stamford Brook) Turnham Green and Ravenscourt Park would still be available eastbound.
