I couldn't clearly see anything at Emerson Park from the bridge, but I didn't go down onto the platform.

The press releases from Thursday say that the introduction of the renaming will be from “Autumn 2024”. Posters explaining the Line names are appearing at Overground stations. Upminster is served by Overground services i.e. the Liberty line, but is a c2c station. I'll have to swing by Emerson Park and have a look.

Went through Upminster today, but didn't see any Liberty line stuff there.

It would appear that those tactics worked, too. Just sayin'. History is written by the victors. Not always. A lot of the early history of the Eastern Front was written by German officers and most of what we know about Vikings comes from their victims. Anyway, all the line names are pretty memorable, which helps.

Call something the Suffragette line is akin to call something the Extinction Rebellion line as they employed rather similar tactics.

Just saw a 1935 photograph of Hornchurch advertising "LMS Electrics", but the LMS never had any electric trains on that line; just the LU ones. Why would they advertise the service that way?

Mile End is supposed to have a one-way system, but it's not very clear for people arriving. The number of people who go up the "down" stairs is a lot.

Are there any plans to renew the moquette on these trains soon? The seats are looking rather worn now.

Although the screens were renewed only a few years ago, I think the software driving what is shown is the same as drove the CRT screens they replaced. They look the same, yes.

I feel sure that someone said on the Northern line automation thread some drivers are so skilled at manual driving that they actually outperform the computers! Not quite sure how that can be, as in any manual mode an extra safety envelope is around the train, acceleration is pegged back slightly and movement authority which includes maximum speed are determined by the system. It was the case with the original ATO system on the Victoria Line, but things have changed I imagine.

Why do these use a non-standard layout and font? It's completely different to most of the network.

In case anyone is wondering, I also checked this with TfL - they gave me back £3.40 and said nothing else on the matter.

Due to my District Line train from Mile End to Upminster Bridge breaking down at Upney, I ended up going back to Barking and getting c2c to Upminster.
Does Mile End-Upney-Barking-Upminster in these circumstances count as one journey or three?
I was delayed around 40 minutes all in all.

Indeed - you may need to detrain a GWR service there. The GER section also has to deal with Greater Anglia's 720s.

There was an issue tonight with a unit transitioning between CBTC and TPWS at Stratford - is this common?

Yes, it was mooted that Crossrail would include a branch to Aylesbury. Also mooted was a southward link towards Kingston Upon Thames. All this was scrapped as a cost cutting exercise! The 1990s plans had Aylesbury, but no Abbey Wood branch.

This should result in almost all trains that currently terminate at Paddington being extended to Old Oak Common. Wouldn't that be after the reversing sidings at Westbourne Park though?

I think it went in 1967 as did the Romford-Upminster line crossing the District tracks to C2C as did a lot of goods yards on the C2C side such as Hornchurch and Upton Park. Yep, I believe the Hornchurch one is now partly the car park and partly a care home.

This means the end for Barking and Upminster signal cabins, leaving the only traditional LU cabins out on the Met! Museum possibilities? Like Epping?

Or a sign indicating you are now entering Moorgate. Same at Bank/Monument really.

What about the people from Twyford? The bi-hourly ex-Didcot GWR services stop at Twyford so you effectively get 4-5tph with a same platform change at Ealing Broadway if you want to go further than Paddington. And those also have a WC.

Hello, first post in the forum even though I’ve been silently reading for years. Does anyone know what the four digit codes on the side destination panels of Elizabeth Line trains mean? Something in this format: 9T72. That's the train reporting number or train ID (commonly referred to as the headcode which isn't entirely accurate). It's used to identify pretty much every individual train service on the national rail network for timetabling and signalling purposes.
It's far less common to see it on a passenger display though.

Am I right in thinking that the new signalling allowing ATO to Upminster goes live this weekend?

The London Transport Museum might have an idea.
