Thanks guys, So I'm guessing that would be the last stretch of train stop/ tripcock protected railway in the country? (after the bakerloo picc and W&C get ato)

Hello all,
I was wondering what will happen to the train protection for the class 165 when it travels over the met line after ATC fitment? Will they keep the train stops or will they install AWS and the like?

Seltrac can Handle multiple closed stations as the loops in the 4ft are constantly communicating with the train. The TOD (Train operators display) will say "Skip next station" and the train will carry on thru the closed station at a maximum speed of 18mph. Often the controller will put in ANP (Auto not permitted) as there might be a risk of people standing close the the platform edge expecting the train to stop. As far as last night I believe at least Bank was Approach In PM (Protected manual) as the station still had passengers on the platform.
CELIA (the auto announcer) has to be cancelled otherwise she will start saying her spiel about connections at the station etc... The driver just has to push the PA button and it will keep her quiet and the driver will have to make an announcement regarding why the station is shut.

Hello all,
Just a random question that popped into my head the other day. Is there a reason why Tube trains have a whistle where as national rail have the two tone horn?

I never knew the 92 ts didn't have interlock cutouts. The 95 and 73's do and I'm assuming the 96's will have it due to being similar in design to the 95's, I'm not sure about the s stock or 09's, and obviously the 72's wouldn't need it due to not having side cab doors! I'm sure the 96 can (could) be driven manually without the need to cut anything out. The 72s (yes, I drove them too) had droplight cut out switch, to be able to drive with the windows down, on account of an Elephant driver head butting the signal plate as he came out of tunnel on approach to Queens pk in 1997 🙄 Aha I would have never had thought the 72's would have a cut out! Good to learn more stuff about stocks, and I just assumed the 96 had a similar set up to the 95, makes you wonder why the 95 has a cut out in th first place. Of course in ato it won't go with a cab door open.

I can imagine its rather nice, does Leytonstone have a Mafia and if so I'm guessing there are some who always end up working down the drain by choice?

I was told whilst on my training as a train op that driving with the cab door was ok as long as it was the offside (opposite side to the driver). It seems that this story wasn't researched at all. I hear on the pic that it is a rarity to find the cab door interlock switch to be in the normal position! The problem with having the offside door open is that if that's the platform side anyone (and I'm thinking drunks) can get in the cab. The 1992s don't have cab door interlock switches, indeed as I've never driven on other Lines (apart from the W&C) I didn't even know they existed. I never knew the 92 ts didn't have interlock cutouts. The 95 and 73's do and I'm assuming the 96's will have it due to being similar in design to the 95's, I'm not sure about the s stock or 09's, and obviously the 72's wouldn't need it due to not having side cab doors!

I would have thought they are getting extra trains as it was mentioned on the Night tube introduction, (the week before the trial nights) That there is a plan for extra trains on the Jubilee and the Northern. Plus camden needs a lot of work before it can be split up.

Surely won't the NTFL be a new kind of go anywhere stock as its planned for The picc Bakerloo and central? Or will there be slight differences for their respective lines?

...at places like golders where you can go into different platform's as the god doesn't say what platform you are routed to. (My underline for emphasis) The idea of a god deciding where trains go sounds very Discworld! Hahaha Wow my phones auto correct has a life on its own. I should correct it from God to TOD hahaha

I have heard of a few trains being wrongly routed, plus at places like Morden edgware, Barnet and Golders would be handy to know what platform you are being sent to. There have been some cases of trains going wrong route on night tube as the time table changes over. Ive experienced my Tod say a wrong destination at this time but have been lucky to be sat at a platform when this happens. By far the system isn't flawless, in that there are things I'm sure everyone would like to see added to it... however, a train cannot get routed to the wrong place in the conventional manner. There is no way a train on an assignment to Edgware will be inadvertently routed to Barnet. However, the system only routes trains in accordance with the timetable allocated to that run. If the run has been modified by accident, (I.E. the signaller edits the wrong train), that could be one reason. Another could be a reformation is taking place which creates a second train with the same number as the first. A destination modification intended for the first train would also apply to the second, even if not originally intended. There are workarounds for this but they're relatively long winded and can be easy to miss if you're busy. As to the night tube, as you said you were in a platform I'll provide an educated opinion on what you're talking about. At a certain time the previous days timetable becomes unassigned. The new one starts loading straight away but that takes a few minutes. You'll see your train number and desintarion change to your VIBC number and the last destination your train recieved. For clarity, this is normally the next platform or intermediate stopping point. This is not a wrong destination. When the new timetable loads, your new information is automatically assigned to your train, and your destination will be updated. It's also worth nothing that the automatic assignment is based upon your TMS number. If you have the wrong TMS number entered, you'll either get the wrong trains timetable loses or one at all, and the signaller will have to intervene. I would like to see indicators as well as station starters especially when some units speakers aren't very loud barely audible over the air con on. As you have a destination display on the TOD, what's the difference between checking that prior to a diverging junction and a trackside route indicator? It just would be nice to have an extra visual indication especially at places like golders where you can go into different platform's as the god doesn't say what platform you are routed to.

I was wondering the other day do Lul drivers on the lines that cross NR infrastructure need a special licence, different from say a Licence of a driver that doesn't cross NR?

Unfortunately rubbish can been seen at most stations, Ive found some odd things thrown out by presumably drivers. The current favourite is polystyrene cups on the top of the green stopping mark.

The E Diamond is for engineering trains. They are placed all over the Northern line the one at euston is where an engineering train might change from one line to another. For example going across the Euston loop into the Kings cross loop then past Signal L221 (Provided its showing a Green aspect) over to the Picc. Theres also E diamonds on transition tracks from non TBTC (Transmission based train control) areas Ie. Depots and some sidings to TBTC signalled track.

Camden Town is already exit only at certain times. Battersea is well underway, the TBMs are on site and possibly even digging by now. I understand digging the other way has reached the outside of the tunnel rings of the existing Northern Line. Yes a reliable source tells me voices can be heard whilst stopped inside the loop. I was In the Loop the other night and got Held By the signaller for a few mins I opened the cab door and it sounded like they were going to join me in the cab!! They have also put up some sort of bracing in the loop as well on the tunnel rings.

TO23's and TO21's are oil and water. They must never mix. So for instance, if as a TO23 you are on a spare duty and at 5am a train needs to come out of the sidings and into the platform, if that move is on the day duty, a TO23 is not allowed to do that move even if there are no spare TO21's available. TO23's cannot also do voluntary overtime so although many would jump at the chance of doing a couple of days during the week to earn a bit more and cover uncovered duties, they are not allowed. I hate the oil and water mentality it seems to be so counter intuitive it seems to split NT and full time drivers as we are all doing the same job. How is the Picc on nt? Ive heard about Day and night spares being told to re number trains so that it is not technically a train on an offending duty.

3 years with the company on Stations and I've always supported every strike and believed it had to be done. This one though I can't agree with. RMT have got it wrong. No sympathy for NT tOps, they knew it was 18 months no going FT when they applied. Its not the issue with the 18months, as we all knew that when we signed up, it about that to company are putting full timers infant of us meaning we could be waiting for 2-3-4 years plus for a full time job to come up. Imagine if you wanted to apply for another job on stations but the company put people before you who applied after you? It could happen to any grade in LU with the company leap frogging people ahead of you. I would support you if it was to happen to station staff and I would support any station issue raised by the unions. Bit sad to hear it is not reciprocated back.

On the Northen Im unsure of a timer but we have a Pea cut out switch on the Bulkhead wall behind the driver to cut out the pea brake application if needed. If in ato and in-between stations the train won't stop anyway but carry on to the next station.

Only 2 SPAD's were recorded one at Arnos Grove and another at Oakwood hope that does not end up as an average or driver training will be busy, will pic line drivers on three be offered an ato line? A t/op at golders green i was chatting to came over from the picc after too many spads but he was a TO21 not TO23 though.

so if all stations having to have platform edge doors and if drainrat is right they have to have a passageway can anyone really see this happening on deep level tubes with the amount of cost and closers it would cause all because Boris wanted to stop drivers strikes I would probably say tfl will be watching closely the Glasgow clockwork orange as i haven't read they will be enlarging the tunnels and thats planned for uto

On the Northen when stabling we get told '6 Car mark' and there is either a 6 dangling from the roof or a stopping diamond.
