It looked like outside broadcast gear. I was guessing it was something happening above ground.

Yes whenever the normal timetable isn't in use the system can't cope. A couple of weeks ago there were delays due to a bridge strike at Forest Hill. All the platform displays along the ELL simply showed "check front of train for destination" with no indication even of due times. The former southern stations did manage (NXG SB excluded of course).

Good effort in my book as well, certainly does the job. There doesn't seen to be that much difference in the Watford branch. I thought the work was done so a higher speed could be achieved on the line to Croxley. The x-over from fast to local line is a very low speed junction now. You'd have thought an express point may have been provided. Yes it's ironic that the old layout would've suited the new Dec timetable much better than what is there now

Because there were no signal failures on the line prior to the introduction of TBTC, were there? I've not heard of a single signal failure suspending an entire line before... Happens sometimes on the Waterloo & City

My goodness it's loud. I didn't realise it was only on one unit - I assumed it was being rolled out so I counted myself lucky the last couple of times with getting quieter alarms! My comment is I agree the old are too quiet but these are way too loud. Also they sound weirdly analogue compared to the precise beeps we're used to now.

A quick word in praise of the staffers on this thread, to see, hear and understand what goes on when problems occur is a great insight into something I'd ordinarily have no opportunity to hear. The closest would be a sorry letter and a travel voucher. So thanks so much for the detail you guys provide. It's also such a different perspective to hear of staff who obviously care passionately whereas the typical Metro article will portray you all as work shy layabouts just looking for the next opportunity to strike.

How will the new timetable help with this? On top of this, at Watford South Junction, the Chiltern service will generally go just in front of the Chesham - rather than behind as before. What this means is, if we have periods of late-running, we can hang on to trains longer at Chalfont than we do now. Quite often a train running just 5 minutes late will either have to be diverted, or will hold up the following Chiltern. Awesome, so the Watford service will get jammed behind a Chesham held north of Moor Park by conflicts if Chiltern are late Btw metcontrol my mood about what's happening to Watford services isn't aimed at you, I'm just really not looking forward to having to wait for 30 mins (if there's a Cancellation) when the new timetable kicks in especially as there is no passenger information north of harrow

Cheers but I still don't understand why the middle of the train is affected. I was (a real guess) wondering about some cold weather setting.

New questions (apologies if there's been something similar before), I was on an S Stock yesterday from Watford to Finchley Road, all was normal the whole way (apart from seeing a bloke peeing out of the centre door of the RAT) until reaching Finchley Road where the door did not open. A quick dash along to an open door and I was onto the Jubilee train next door. As we left however I noticed that only 1 door on every car was open. Any idea what would cause this? The door made no sound and the button never illuminated.

What amazes me is that around 20% of the fleet is now S Stock and there are still drivers that aren't trained!!!

I'm guessing this has been the first week of continuous hot temperatures since full fleet service given the cool summer. How has the vic line environment fared? (travelled on the sweaty central line last night which reminded me)

I was in London few days ago (just passing through the UK for the first time in 2 years) and had a few rides on the Jubbly. Was very impressed with the smooth acceleration and deceleration under TBTC. Much better ride quality than on the Victoria (09TS) and Central (92TS). In contrast on Saturday I went between Bond Street and Baker Street and felt sea sick like from the on-off motion

Why don't they plain line Harrow North Jn and be done with it rather than these stealth changes. Having the Met line have every train stop at every station fits in perfectly with the rest of TfL.

I'd have thought noisy doors are useful in discouraging PAX from putting their hands in the way of them closing. The snap the Capitalstars and S Stock have seems a pretty good deterant.

I've seen a guy in what looks like a standard wheelchair haul himself up into an LO train at Forest Hill using the two grab rails. Ovbiously he couldn't have managed a flight of stairs but a single step with grab rails made it possible.

I am not aware of any system on LU that forecasts the time a train should arrive and slow that train down to arrive dead on time. Much better to allow the train to arrive and await for time - you never know, the recovery may be needed if the platform is crowded. The Jubilee sure feels like it drives like that even with a scheduled 5 min gap if it is on time it seems to take it easy.

Hmmn Keep Left doesn't always suit. As an example the passageway between the Central line and Northern line ticket halls at Bank. In the mornings the passengers Keep Left, but in the evenings they Keep Right irrespective of the signage. The consequence is the flow is much better than always Keeping Left.
