Don't forget The Talyllyn Railway can still operate its original four wheel carriages from 1865. Edit to add: and they've been operating continuously too, no time spent as chicken coups etc...

Only if it works as intended. Who knows what gremlins will appear once used in anger.

cl710 are now coming off the production line and being stored until such a time as they can be introduced to traffic:

I'm led to believe that the fault was resolved by swapping a component in the signalling centre.

The Network Rail standard for platform height is not related to line speed.

Interesting that the describer at Earl's Court was lit up for Ealing Broadway. OK it's technically correct that's where the train was going, but I expected it to not display a destination at all.

So why can't the occasional National Rail trains run over LU controlled infrastructure rather than frequent LU trains run over LU owned but NR controlled infrastructure.
What advantage was gained by LU buying the branch?

The reason why the branch operates under Network Rail rules and with Network Rail traction supplies is that it was formerly owned by British Rail/Railtrack until London Underground bought it for £1 in 1994. I'm intrigued by this. Why haven't LU brought these things in-house? What is the reason it is still different?

Admin comment As I'm involved in this thread I wouldn't usually get involved in any coloured ink on this thread; however:
I think the quiz team have sufficiently explained their rationale for the clues given, although they may have (at times) been slightly questionable.
If members want to talk about road numbering in the 'On Diversion' board then they can, though we are an Underground forum.

Hmm, well it shouldn't be, roads are numbered based on the lowest sector they pass through, the A4xxx sector is a triangle with vertices roughly at London, Bristol and Holyhead. Gallions Hill is in the A1 sector so all roads should start with a 1.

Fair enough. You seem to have ruled out Greater London though (hint). Found it! Gallions Hill in Thamesmead - which just shows how wriggly our roads are. Less than 150 miles as the crow flies. Background: Gallions Hill, Thamesmead [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Google maps give the fastest (and shortest) route between the suggested colliery and the hill to be A50, M1, M25 then into London as 198miles.

Note that I said drive and not a direct line. Which is why I said Devon rather than Plymouth (which is about 200 miles as the crow flies) and discounted places within that radius on the other side of the Irish Sea. Still not found it though. Fair enough. You seem to have ruled out Greater London though (hint).

Google Maps tells me that it's a 200mile drive from that colliery to this location. Note that I said drive and not a direct line.

The answer on the card is:
These are the alphabetically last geographically qualified stations, except South Acton which is the alphabetically first South station.

Yes, that would be the link, but why is South Acton the odd one out?

Got it, I think - to be consistent with the others, South Acton would be replaced by Southwark. That's correct! Hopefully now all the clues we've given slot into place. Anybody else figured it out?

No 'e' in South Acton. All the others have 'e'. It's about words not letters.

Nope, nothing to do with stairs. It's literally about the names, nothing else. This is a long shot but could it be that South Acton is the only station with a "u".. But then again it's not anything to do with compass points so I don't know.. 🤔🤔 Not quite. It's about words not letters, the compass points are part of it, but you should be focussing on the other part of the name(s).

That's good and is closer to the kind of answer we're looking for, but not what it says on my card. It's more about order rather than what is/isn't there.

This is a word one, you don't need to know anything about the actual locations. Is it because South Acton has both conductor rails and OHLE whereas the others are just conductor rail fitted? So it's a no I'm afraid, electricity supply is unrelated.

To clear up any misunderstanding; there are four locations, identify the link between them and the odd one out
a: West Silvertown - beneath station in January 2017 [Chris M] b: North Wembley - bottom of stairs from northbound platform to footbridge [Chris M] c: Eastcote - top of stairs to platform 1 [Chris M] d: South Acton - northbound platform [Chris M]
Nobody has correctly identified the full link yet, but you know it's something to do with compass points.
You also know that D is the odd one out, but you've not got quite why just yet.
