I read that Northern are keeping the cl323 that were to go to the Midlands, with the Midland units moving north. Could it be that the AC Desiros are all bound for Birmingham?

Isn't there one short 72ts set, when marshalled in a conventional set it's noticeable as there's a red fronted cab in the middle of the set.
Would that fit in the bay?

Oh completely, which is why I asked if anyone knew what happened - as opposed to what should have happened. I guess there are two options:
•It got put in a postbox near 55 Broadway •It got put in a bin
But which was it?

I'm going to take a guess that Inset 4 is around Allerton Junction near Liverpool Correct. Allerton Jct is immediately South of Liverpool South Parkway (née Allerton) station. Following the Weaver-Wavertree resignalling control of this area was passed to Manchester Rail Operations Centre and Allerton Jct 'box has been recently demolished. The signal in my picture has now been replaced.

According to Wikipedia, LNWR will be keeping the /1 and /3 subclasses, and acquiring the 350/4s from Transpennine. Yes that will give LNWR a uniform fleet of 110mph 350s. The /2s are only 100mph capable without modification. Aren't the /2 the ones with commuter (2+3) seating which keep getting put on the Liverpool-Birmingham and Liverpool-London routes, for which they are far from appropriate?

Can anyone here say definitively what happened if Royal Mail was posted in a Staff Letters postbox?
My understanding is that only an employee of The Royal Mail can carry the Monarch's post on the Highway, so if LT posted on GPO mails they could only have done this if there was a postbox on railway property.
The Railway Letter Service allows this to happen to this day, with some heritage railways allowing letters to be posted at their stations either "to be called for at..." or "posted on arrival at.." another of their stations. Of course, there is a small fee for this service.

4 S8 staffed by Met line I/Ops Wembley Park-King’s Cross. 7 S7 staffed by C&H T/Ops Hammersmith-King’s across. 3 S7 staffed by District I/Ops Olympia-Edgware Road 2 S7 staffed by C&H T/Ops High Street-Edgware Road. Additional 1 S7 working as required staffed by Test Train Operators (TTOs). The question is though, did it work?

To avoid paying the zone 1 fare I assume you tap a pink reader. As such the system routes your fare via the GOBLin and thus will trigger you a refund.

At the risk of triggering any old school memories, it might be useful for those trying to establish the link to read the question carefully.

Previously they have been 'top & tail', that is one loco at each end. They were individually operated with the crews having a radio link such that the leading driver could request assistance in the rear if necessary.

Not sure about the location, but the stop-board is interesting. It's in case the driver hasn't quite grasped the Rule Book. I suspect the sign is before the train gets to the signal and is intended because for some reasons the powers that be don't want a train to pull right up the to signal.

Location A: Between Hanwell and Southall - bridge over Uxbridge Road from westbound train [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Location C: Between Brent Cross and Hendon Central - bridge over North Circular [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Location D: Between Dagenham East and Elm Park - S stock from The Chase nature reserve [Chris M] Which leaves you just to get B and the Beckton branch station that belongs in the set.

I don't think I've seen the term D.N.O. before on this forum, could anyone help us out with a meaning?

No. We also don't know why it was stranded - we're speculating it was a power issue due to the location, but that might be a red herring. We do know it was travelling northbound though so it would be going from DC to AC. Admin commentLet's not speculate about this incident, eh? Discussion about OLÉ and the like is interesting (and thus I'm not locking this thread), but as the experts are investigating it's not our place to second guess them.

This image shows in red which bits are live - basically none of the bits that closer to a person than the contact wire is. It's not the clearest image but it's the best I can find online. The clearest one I've seen was I think in the vestibule of a Voyager and showed clearly the live parts of OHLE and third rail. I'm sure there are also bonds between the running rails and the neutral wire which are charged, though they are usually insulated so present less hazard to an evacuating passenger than they do to a member of the P-way gang with a spade. And just before our resident pedants' burst into life, OHLE/OLE= Overhead Line Electrification. I have seen signage for both OLE and OHLE, but personally I prefer to call it OLÉ. Basically, it's the electric knitting up there somewhere.

Interesting special service running today due to Engineering works. Circle line from Edgware Road to Barking via Victoria. Have trains labelled Circle ever headed out to Barking before? I hadn't noticed any but I guess it may have happened for similar reasons. Obviously I know they are the same trains and same drivers as the H&C so it makes little practical difference except they will be going via Minories junction instead of Aldgate Junction. Do Circle/H&C drivers have route knowledge for that? Or would District Line pilots be used for the stretch between Tower Hill and Aldgate East? Surely it can be worked using District Train Operators as they sign to Edgeware Road anyway to operate the Wimbleware service.

Also, will automated trains be allowed to enter platform 2 whilst another train is *leaving* platform 1? (stationary so that passengers can benefit from a hurried cross-platform interchange is a different issue) I ask these questions with thoughts of an arriving train sliding on slippery rails and going a little too far before coming to a halt. Yes, but at a very slow speed in a similar manner to that enforced today using trainstops and Variable Speed Signage. Any chance of a picture of what these signs look like?

Are there any mainline rolling stocks from the 70s still running or have they all been replaced? There are some mainline survivors from the 70s, the class 313 and the similar class 314 along with HSTs and anything else that uses Mark 3 coaches. The Merseyside class 507 and 508 are the same era, though will be gone soon.

Location B - Great South West Road - Piccadilly Line between Hounslow West and Hatton Cross where line surfaces over River Crane. Location D Radlett Road Watford - London Overground/DC line overbridge between Watford Junction and Watford High Street. Link - is it the locations are getting nearer to the end of the line, - counting down from 4,3,2,1 Location A is 4 stations - Ruislip, Ickenham Hillingdon and Uxbridge, Location B is 3 stations - Hatton Cross, Heathrow Terminals 2&3, Heathrow Terminal5, Location C is 2 stations - Hackney Wick and Stratford Location D is 1 station - Watford Junction <<rincew1nd: posts merged>>Location B: Between Hatton Cross and Hounslow West - west of River Crane in February 2017 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Location D: Between Watford High Street and Watford Junction - bridge over Radlett Road in June 2019 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) By looking at adjacent stations you're on the right lines, but not quite right.

They probably could. But if the workers asked for one and it's still not turned up then they are quite right to object.
