Ran into Detonator Dave on Saturday. He asked me to add that he will be on the tour and if any of the old Baker Street crowd are about to give him a shout!

They wouldn't be able to unless the signalling system was immunised first I think. Would certainly be a sight though!

The 1972 mark1 unit was dragged out for scrap some time ago by the 1967 unit. There is a thread on it somewhere. The 67 stock is Bakerloo spare I think.

My records indicate the following:
Harrow 1994 3539-3257 (3539-4539 scrapped)
Piccadilly 1994 (3249-4249 scrapped)
Piccadilly 1996 (3257 scrapped)
It will be noted that 3257 was at the trailing end of the train which collided with the stops at harrow only to be written off on the cross over at Piccadilly two years later!

Yes the MK2 and mk1 stock on the Bakerloo were fitted late. The difference between the mark 1 and 2 stick used to be the lack of set number box on the M door. Some Bakerloo trains have it which give them away as ex northern stock

The S stock does have smaller wheels which is why the ride is very average for a modern train. Probably best to use 10.5mm wheels for it.

I commonly see wooden sleepers used at expansion joints where a section of bullhead rail is bolted flat to a set of sleepers to hold them together.

I'm not sure that aerodynamics is that effective at underground service speeds, but the loading gauge issue is significant to me. To answer the question I would suggest that money is a key factor! Why do we need to change a proven design that's been around since the 1920s? Modern designs have the sliding doors externally, which presumably is easier and cheaper to install. As has been said elsewhere, U/G trains anywhere in the world are rapid transit systems. Does anyone know of a U/G system anywhere in the world where plug doors are used? I'm sure they used plug doors in Berlin (Reg will correct me if I'm wrong!) at least on the S Bahn which is similar to the SSR lines here- that being said it is Germany- if it can be made to work anywhere.....

The number is that from a 1959/62 stock car (can't remember which one).

I understand the key factor is reliability. Plug doors were considered for the S stock but the number of operations per hour, and the number of doors when compared with a NR train made the decision a no brainer!

The previous 1940 tube stock ran in 5 car formations at peak capacity so maybe a return to this working will be considered?

I've finally been able to get some more work done on the layout. The poor weather has really held me back. I'm hoping to get this board completed by the end of the month. This board is a real challenge as it is curved. I have adopted a Barry Norman type approach and gone for the double beam method but used small 6mm blocks. The curve was created by starting at one end and gluing the internal blocks in a clamping shut before moving round to the next piece. Here it is still in the clamps but nearly dry. 5703-5547-5707 still at Neasden but I imagine will go to Northwood today as soon as the last two cars leave today? I expected it to move to Northwood today Metman but it was still at Neasden this evening. Unit 5586 was, however, disposed of today. This train is going today.
