What has happened to the trailer? Scrapped? Which cars carry compressors as only the trailers on 56/59/62 stock had them (two!).

I think they were permanently lit and were blanked off internally.

Think it was Nov 1985 on the Bakerloo and 5 trains reintroduced from 1987-88 on the Northern in the peaks.

Thanks for that I look forward to seeing them. I was on the Bakerloo last night. I note the single headlight placed in the end of the UNDM. Was this added during the last refurb?

Bit of an update on this really with C stock being stripped for parts. Which bits from the C stock are intending to be used? Do the original compressors CP30s? Still work? Can bits be taken from the museums static Q23 car?

I will put some photos up for sure but they will be in a modelling thread.
Back on topic I would also like to see photos of the NSE livery running with the dinos!

No it is based in the 1939-1961 LT red period to make occasional 'test runs' through Harrow-on-the-Hill and overhaul runs from Neasden to Acton.
There will be either a 4 car unit or two 3 car units as oringally delivered.
The respray will allow me to eleviate the following problems:
Removal of the fat handrails Removal of the door fault lights Addition of butterfly cocks Insertion of standard stock trailer the same colour! Provision of 1949 UNDM using red sprayed 1959/62 NDM
So just a small project then....

I would expect the Dino livery change took place when each unit was due for a full overhaul so it is not unreasonable to consider that units worked together in different liveries. However, if the overhauls were carried out off season the work could have been carried out on spare units as suggested and therefore a side by side photo may not exist!
Good luck with the eBay challenge!
I personally intend to respray a NSE 2 car set full LT red so complete my 6 car train.

There are about 304 seats I think but I don't get one often so it is hard to tell!
40+38+38+36+36+38+38+40
= 304

Yes the front has been flipped and I agree the cab looks a little tall!
Good to hear 4 units in use with work on the other taking place. I assume. 4 car trains were running?

A 3 car light weight rail set was used in the early 50s with poor riding qualities!

Is there any spare rolling stock available to run the service? Spare 72 mark 1 stock perhaps? Could 3 or 4 car trains be used?

With the flags up a D stock has done 75mph but I would doubt that would be healthy for the train in the medium team. I would expect if it was ever to happen (and is not) the best use could be on the Hownslow service and brentford loop. A 12 car D stock would have far better capacity than an 8 car class 455.

It sometimes used to house short engineering trains like a rail grinder.

It seems to be yes, although I think the OP meant that they should be used on existing 3rd rail lines. The single doors are a problem but the double doors on say a Class 455/56 are not that much wider and there would be more doors per car (72 per train). In reality, the use of 36 year old trains is probably a non starter anyway.

It's a shame it isn't a two track railway throughout! Is there room to start the passing loop at Brading and have two tracks to Sandown?

Interesting. There is going to be a lot of spare DMUs kicking around in a few years when the Thameslink and Crossrail fleets are running.

With the met extended to Watford it is unlikely the Bakerloo will be especially with the fast train service to Watford ftom euston. The DC lines north of harrow could do with 4tph to encourage growth

ATO is Automatic Train Operation, which basically means a computer is controlling the traction and brakes. For heritage stock you would only need the ATP bit i.e. the driver operates the train to instructions on their in cab display (plus some lineside signals). This is no different to how the engineers fleet operate under TBTC and Central Line ATP. Regards, Dan I believe that is the plan.

There was also a plan to use 1967 stock from the Victoria line as 6 car trains on the Watford to euston service at one point too. LO killed that off....

Yes true which is a strange decision to want them considering that the 1938 stock had to run as 2 car units to avoid lengthening the car sheds at St Johns Road.

Agreed. They would need a lot of mods to be able to run as 2 car units and they are longer than standard cars.
