C is the shopping centre outside High street Kensington, which I believe has the honour of the first station to appear 16 times. B I think is somewhere on the northern end of the Piccadilly.

As far as I know, there haven't been any confirmed orders, which is why at the moment they are proposing these different configurations and making a demonstrator. If they prove the demonstrator to work, then they will likely find an operator. General consensus is they will act as pacer replacements for northern, but they may end up on other lines (marshlink perhaps?)

Well, it seems that the plan is to have several different versions, city, commuter, and country. Both commuter and country only have 2 doors per side. They will be internally gangwayed, and the cab structure modified, most likely to meet the new crash regulations that gave us the front sloped end of the class 380. I'm assuming that they will rip out all of the underfloor equipment and refit as necessary per their design, otherwise it might be a tight squeeze! They seem to also be planning on having them easy maintenance, and stop-start engines. Will be very interesting to see how this turns out.
Also, may I ask why this thread has been stickied?

There are 40 cars that are part of a double ended unit, and in addition to the 130 single ended DMs, that leaves 20 left out from the 150 purchased. This would allow for 10 units to remain, so we may end up with the case of 7520-7539 being retained in their respective trains, whilst all of the other cars are taken for conversion. The fact that they have acquired "150 D78 Driving Motor cars plus enough vehicles to form 75 units" suggests that they will be running the trains in 3 or 4 car formations, so I am expecting that a number of cars will be either heading off for scrap, or conversion to sandite cars.

I suspect that performance gains will be from the use of (hopefully) more efficient transmission from engine to wheels, and in the fact that it will accelerate a fair bit quicker than a 150, before levelling out at 60mph, which would be about as quick as the train gets on the services they intend on running. I'd be interested to know what the rating of the LT118 motor is, so we can see how much of a surplus/deficit there will be per car.

The NR system seems to be under the impression of the train running from platform 5, albeit without a report of it leaving, although I suspect that is because the normally timetabled train leaves from there, but because of the engineering works, it can't access p5, hence the appearance in p4. I'm not sure about a pilot for the bay, yes it could probably do with one, but at 6:30 in the morning, would you be able to get one? The driver was probably told to go slowly, or talked through by the signaller.

The DMIs on the Branch are notoriously inaccurate. I believe that this is to do with the way in which the data is transferred between NR and LU, which isn't very well, and so the descriptions are often wrong, indeed to the level of PAs on stations telling people that the boards are incorrect, and that they should check the front of the train for it's correct destination. At Wimbledon, the destination is usually inputted by one of the people in the little staff assistance office next to "snax". Heading towards Wimbledon, I'd be surprised if there was a way to get that wrong, as it is the only possible destination, other than parsons green, but that would be out of the way before it got to the boundary!

I'm guessing that this would be caused by not setting the wheel lathe correctly, probably turning them at what would be the centre for 'normal' mainline wheelsets? Although, not being versed in wheel lathe operation, i'm just making a guess. Is this how the wheelsets came to be elliptical?

I think that the function of the lights is hinted at in the name: Door Fault Indicators - ie, they illuminate when there is a door fault - ie. no interlock. This means that on the S stock, until the interlock is proven, the external lights stay on. On other tube stocks, it just so happens that with all the doors acting (almost) together, the DFIs all come on at the same time, as all of the doors unlock, and extinguish at (more or less) the same time as well, when they all re-lock.

As for the OP, I would hope that this essential maintenance isn't routine maintenance, as that would suggest something is seriously wrong with the system.

The DLR and London Overground trains require buttons to be pushed to open the doors (except the one the PSA is operating the train from) in all circumstances. This does sometimes confuse people who expect the doors to open automatically like on the Underground, but they soon get the hang of it. Regardless of who opened them, if the doors have started closing then you are too late to use them. The chimes last 3 seconds before the doors start to close, so if you are further away than 2 seconds when they start you are too late. When the doors close at termini for the benefit of the aircon, there is no audible warning. I'm fairly sure the door warbler alarm does go off when they auto-close. They use to close silently, but they updated the trains so that they bleep whenever the doors close, automatically or under the driver's control.

The size and shape of the windows would certainly endorse your suggestion. As for the main(?) I'll go for my usual guess when it is a full size car, that looks fairly old, and say it is the 4-TC set (woo! 999th post - although now I've got to wait for a something worthwhile for the 1000th! )

Having dabbled in minecarts in game before, I must admit, I'm very impressed! However, getting some of the curves right might be a bit difficult, unless you've got a mod that improves the system wholly and adds multi-block curves. I don't think that even the caxton curve is as tight as 90 degrees through a radius of 1 metre!

I suspect it will probably be something to do with the fact that the headlights weren't necessarily intended for illumination, but more for identification and alerting trackside peoples to the presence of the train, certainly that is what they do on NR trains. I guess back in the early days, it would have been similar, considering that the "big" trains of the time were also not fitted with high-intensity lights. Similarly with the one sided lights, it would again be for identification rather than illumination. Indeed, to this day, many tube stocks still don't have very illuminating lights, even though from 67TS on they were fitted with the high intensity lights. This is made clear from the Drivers Eyes Views videos, where the filming crew will bring extra lights, so that you can see things in the tunnels!

Been a while since I've touched anything from Trainz, but I'd guess that you would need a combined signal, where the shunt signal and main line signal, are part of the same asset. This would need to be configured with the routes acting independently, but as I said, it's been a while! No idea if such a thing exists

The best way to tell them apart once they're in service proper, and there aren't and S7+1s, will be to look at what it says on the front! If it says Metropolitan line, all stations, semi-fast, or fast, it'll be an S8, anything else, S7. You can also look at the units numbers, anything that starts 2X0XX or 2X1XX is an S8, if it is 2X3XX, 2X4XX, or 2X5XX.

I would prefer the current uniform to stay (If it ain't broke...) or if they *had* to change it, go for a more heritage look, seeing as that is the preferred approach when you look at things like borismasters and the NT4L. Ps. I have a vague recollection of there being a thread about new uniform somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

Out of interest, does (did) any stock use disk brakes? I know they are the favoured brakes on network rail, but the 700s are going to have tread brakes to save weight, and scrubbing the wheels, so I can't imagine if any stock did have discs fitted.
