That's several months earlier than originally planned. Good news. ;D

Must be getting very near. I was on a East London Line (New Cross to Dalston Junction) where the stickers had been added to the route map on the train showing as running Highbury and Islington. It is also on the route map here.<snip> I went on 378136 today which has the updated route maps and then later, on 378217 in new car 38217 which had no route maps at all. Simon

The temporary metal barriers seperating the ELL side from the NLL side at Canonbury island platform (2 + 3) have been removed. The footbridge to ELL platform 1 has been cleared of builders rubble (but there are some red temporary barriers still blocking it). The destination route map on ELL North - West bound side Platform 1 confusingly shows all stations to Richmond (instead of just Highbury & Islington). It is, however, headed "Trains to Highbury & Islington". Anyone wanting an all trains to Richmond service without having to change should get the NLL from Westbound Island platform 3. Canonbury station was it darkness when I alighted there on Friday evening. There was a London Overground Customer Service team laying out temporary lights. The proper lighting was back working yesterday (Sat). Here's looking forward to Monday Feb 28th.

The Connex DOI's are using two lines to display H&I with the third showing the stations served, which means they no longer show the next train afterwards.

So what happened then? Here we are on the big day and no H&I trains. I can assure you they are. Boarded a nothbound train this morning at Whitechapel low level and rode it all the way to Highbury and islington with no problem.

So did I, despite the train's DVA telling everyone to get out at DJ because "This train terminates here" even though it didn't and the platform DMIs were showing it as a through service. No station or train staff corrected this error and most people alighted, including one passenger who asked the cleaner (no staff present) how to get to Dalston Kingsland and who'd probably have been better off changing at Canonbury. Indeed though the starter was off long before the train arrived we still had an unexplained minute or so's wait. Also N/B trains in platform 1 effectively stop short given that all passengers have to arrive from the north end of the platform. Anyway, a useful link - for those in the know anyway!

Another test train will hopefully run from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington on Friday 7 January at approx 10am, returning to Dalston Junction at approx noon - all being well. So good to see trains finally running on the Dalston west curve after nearly 25 years. Dalston east curve next anyone! ;D ;D The Kingsland Shopping Centre car park would have to be remodelled to allow Eastern curve trains to Stratford to run again. Sadly plans for the Dalston Junction area doesn't seem to give any support for the eastern curve.

No idea, but the FCC Thameslink South London loop should be a consideration, seeing it has a poor service currently.

Well, Ken wanted everything within the M25, didn't he? And there were/are proposals for Taking over the Crystal Palace - Clapham Junction (The Outer South London Line) service.

Interesting that the Tube Map still doesn't show the Stratford International branch even under construction.

Why has it never been shown under construction, the ELL was during its conversion to LO and the JLE was it on before it opened.

It is already shown fully on the new editions pasted up in LO carriages and the new Met S Stock. In fact, if you look at the one linked above you'll see that there is space to the right of the Jubbly where this will go, because it's already there on the artwork but 'hidden'. No printed copies with the LO link but without the DLR SI ex will be posted.

The Connex DOI's are using two lines to display H&I with the third showing the stations served, which means they no longer show the next train afterwards. Yes this is incredibly annoying as you don't know whether the next train will be to London Bridge, and if it is, how late it is. Why couldn't they use H'bury & Islington? Perhaps too many brain cells required.

Errors on TFL website. Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington page at URL: www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/15397.aspx“A full service opened on 28 February between Highbury & Islington and New Cross/Crystal Palace and West Croydon” Should be New Cross Gate – not New Cross (as New Cross trains start from and terminate at Dalston Junction). Similarly on West Croydon to Highbury & Islington page at URL: www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/15360.aspx“A full service opened on 28 February between Highbury & Islington and New Cross/Crystal Palace and West Croydon” Should be New Cross Gate – not New Cross (as New Cross trains start from and terminate at Dalston Junction). Also this page states: “Every five minutes (increasing to every four minutes in 2012) calling at all stations between Highbury & Islington and Surrey Quays” I assume the 2012 date refers to the extension from Surrey Quays via the current SLL to Clapham Junction. I thought these trains were planned to start and terminate at Dalston Junction, and not run from and to Highbury & Islington, as confirmed on Clapham Junction to Surrey Quays page at URL: www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/15401.aspx

The 10 minute gaps in the Northbound H&I services are a bit disappointing. Do any of you know if a faster frequency is planned in the future?
I guess there must be an operational reason why the New Cross trains have to stop short at Dalston (or will this change when the ELL phase 2 opens)?
This 10 minute gap is not acknowledged by TfL
“Every five minutes (increasing to every four minutes in 2012) calling at all stations between Highbury & Islington and Surrey Quays”
Does that mean it is temporary? Let's hope.

'Fraid not - as I understand it NX and Clapham Junction trains will turn at Dalston, the others at H&I. This is presumably because the terminal facilities at the latter cannot cope with the full 15tph service. presumably the ones chosen to go through were chosen as those which would benefit most from the onward connections at H&I: in particular SLL to NLL is rather circuitous to be useful and New Cross (and the South Eastern network) has other routes available to north London e.g. via London Bridge

The frequency on the core section during the day should be 5/10 mins to Highbury & Islington, so it should be 2 H&I in a row, 1 Dalston from New Cross then 2 H&I again.
New Cross and Phase 2 Clapham Junction will terminate at Dalston Junction after the extension opens.

A quick question.
Who owns the section of track between Dalston Junction and H&I on the ELL side? TfL or Network Rail?

Network Rail owns the track between Highbury & Islington and a point more or less just behind the old Signal Box at what was Dalston Western Junction.

I used the H&I to West Croydon service today. Went from H&I to Shadwell.
One thing I noticed is that the drivers still plod those 378s along as if they have all the time in the world. There's also this extra delay at Dalston Junction.
Can someone explain why the 378s aren't driven more aggressively?

Can someone explain why the 378s aren't driven more aggressively? 378's accelerate and brake better when driven in AC mode compared to DC which is what the ELL runs on. Hence why it may feel 'sluggish' at times. The delay at Dalston Junction also allows for a driver changeover as drivers take their breaks at Dalston Jct.

378driver - you are always a great source of information about the ELL. Thanks for providing it.
