The same can't be said for C with two different guesses: The bridge arch in C reminds me of Tottenham Hale [the BR bit rather than the LT station] C - Shoreditch High Street? C- Shoreditch High Street Points on this occassion to rail2210 as the first to guess: Location C: Shoreditch High Street - entrance and view of Braithwaite Viaduct on 29 December 2015 [@ellis ] (click for a larger version) Hmmn doesn't seem entirely fair when the other user changed their answer after I submitted mine

Yes I followed the signs from the Underground which ended at a barriered off passageway with no further hints as to where next to go

As for the new subterranean area, well its OK but nothing special. I question if the severe inconvenience the building works has caused passengers can be justified. I agree, I was expecting something rather fantastic but I found it actually quite dark and austere. The staff also don't have any knowledge of Thameslink and Southern services.

Sorry not too au fait with the names but it was the same as the next station voice. The doors announcement is immediately after the next station announcement.

I noticed earlier this week a set which had "Doors will open on the right hand side" announced as well as repeated on the screen. I was on one of the prototype trains with the odd door pillars (maybe 005).
Certainly was announced very clearly and seems a good enhancement.
PS I don't think anything else has changed including keeping the different lady announcing the destination.

Presumably because when they were fitted the only tube access was via the NB platform. Only recently has direct SB access been added and I guess it's either been forgotten or is to come.

I think it would be far better if it was left to passengers to open the door. That way they will be open an inconsistent amount of time. Or, randomise the 45 seconds on each door +/- 5 seconds. What both the above would achieve is making auto close not look the same as a departure with every door closing at the same time.

Alex, yes agreed, I noticed it change about two weeks ago and it's now really clear between Green Park and Bond Street. As the train leaves Bond Street you can hear a real growl too. I still have no idea what it is though.

Terminal 5 has 5C too. I think the plan with T3 is for it to be replaced with a 5D and 5E.

I've noticed over the past few months that the motor noise seems to change at Waterloo. West of waterloo it's the normal relatively quiet sound when at speed, East of Waterloo it's quite a loud electrical whistling sound similar to being on a Pendolino. Was it always thus or has something changed this year?

Just the way chance works, I've travelled from Forest Hill to London Bridge nearly every weekday for 5 years and never had an onboard check and yet I occasionally take the ELL and have been checked probably 4 or 5 times now since it reopened.

Not only are the announcements less clear, they sound quite amateurish with inconsistent intonation during sentences. More importantly, they no longer announce how many coaches are in the next train which is important as Southern vary between 3 and 10 coaches on this route.

Hello, just wondering if there is anyone in the know. The 0735 ex Chesham seemingly left around 0726 this morning. I was just wondering if this is likely to happen on any other days? Could it be connected to the closure of Uxbridge or was it just disruption this morning?
Thanks in advance

I think their clarity is excellent though they need more flexibility. Eg I heard at Westminster "The next train is to Circle line".

Off topic, but you've reminded me of the audio announcements at Euston NR for a train the screens were displaying as a charter train. "Platform 1 for the 10:51 ... service to ... , calling at ... only" I can't see what you are getting at here. Did they say (for example): "Platform 1 for the 10:51 Neasden service to Neasden , calling at Neasden only" or "Platform 1 for the 10:51 dot dot dot service to dot dot dot , calling at dot dot dot only" or "Platform 1 for the 10:51 ellipses service to ellipses , calling at ellipses only"? If it was the first example (i.e. they actually stated the destination), why is the destination now redacted? I'm felling a bit thick, today. I was assuming pregnant silences?

I must be missing something here - I am 61 years old after all!!! Currently, Canada Water platforms can `completely` handle a 4 car train, with all doors opened and the whole train completely platformed. I initially read that SDO would be used, and the rear car of the 5 car unit would have no doors opened. If this is the case, why would any works be needed at Canada Water? If the usable length of the platforms is being extended by selected demolition at the Southern end of the platforms, with no works to lengthen the tunnel I assumed this would enable 1 door to be opened in the rear car number 5. I just do not `get` this idea that the rear door in each 5 car unit will not open. If this is so, why do any works at CW? Whjat am I missing? Agreed. Not only do the current 4 cars fit, they fit easily with space to spare. Given the size of space being freed by the works I was in no doubt that 5 cars would fit until I started reading this thread.
