I think it's Swansea Bay from the route of the Mumbles Railway. Don't know what the actual platform is though.

To be fair, some of the residential development is quite nice. Big gardens, district line at the bottom of the big garden, conservatories etc. It is arguably an enthusiasts heaven. I've often thought that a webcam streaming footage of the railway would be quite good...
Sadly, my house isn't one of the ones that backs directly onto the line, so I can hear the trains but not see them...otherwise I am sure I'd have been happy to oblige...

West brompton is rather nice, at least the DL side is. The NR platforms are now a mix of old 60s esque platforms and modern stuff as well. I'd also say that the line between just south of East Putney junction and the road bridge north of Wimbledon Park is quite nice, albeit with a fair amount of residential development either side
...hey...some of us live in the fair amount of residential development...much of which, of course, is only there because of the railway and built up progressively since 1889 when the line opened.

I ought to be able to remember further back than 2009...but the memory fades. It all started at some point during the 24 years I have been living in Southfields, that's for sure...I do know that the sponsor in 2009 was HSBC and I'm pretty certain that the fake grass element pre-dates 2009 by some years.

The fake grass etc you refer to is there for the 2-3 weeks of the Championships. I disagree with you on the statement that there is little need for information on a mid January morning. There are many visitors to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum in winter, as evidenced by the numerous times I've been asked for directions whilst on Wimbledon Park Road in the winter season, and other times of the year! Those who ask me for directions are invariably foreign tourists who need information such as an announcement on the train. Why should visitors be inconvenienced by having to go to Wimbledon Station instead of using the correct exit station (Southfields) for the sake of a simple recorded announcement? As tut pointed out, Verbal Overload is something to be avoided. For example, at 8AM in the morning, outside of the championship fortnight, how many people need to be informed that this is the station for the club. Unfortunately, it just isn't necessary for 95% of the time. Ideally, during championship week, the S stock would announce that this is the station for the tennis, but usually the dwell times are longer, and there are SAs on the platform going over the PA saying to alight for the tennis. If you're coming in from the city, its fine as you can get off then, and If you are coming from Wimbledon, then you probably know already that this is the station you need to get off at.
Also, and no doubt very tediously since I have mentioned this on here before, the current announcement refers to the "Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club" which is actually a different club on the opposite side of the road to the All England Club, where the Championships are held and to which everyone is going. A small point but it has annoyed me for years!

Is it between southfields and east putney. Afraid I've drawn a blank on the direction. I should probably got a coffee down my neck and come back to it If it is between Southfields and East Putney it would be looking towards EP. I did think it was from that end of the Wimbledon Branch when I first saw it, but now I'm not so sure. Darn it...not going to like this

The remaining remnant of that connection is the substantial footbridge over the road to Waterloo East. The footbridge, which indeed used to carry the track that crossed the Waterloo main forecourt is adjacent to the modern footbridge at a slightly lower level and just to the north of it.

A little part of me wonders if it wouldn't have been cheaper to continue to employ train guards by comparison with all the investment in equipment and processing power? I think that when the 72s and 73s were converted to OPO they modified the controls in the rear cab so that they couldn't function while the front cab was active, that modification would have to be reversed. LUL are trying to reduce staff rather than increase it so I don't think they're going to reintroduce guards on the two lines without in-cab CCTV. If this sort of incident were happening on a regular basis then LUL might examine their safety procedures but as it isn't they're not going to see the need to upgrade the current system of platform monitors and SATS with the additional expense. I'm sure that's all true. I was just wondering if, when all the investment in technology is added up, if it were to be compared with the costs of employing humans over the same period of time, it wouldn't turn out to have been cheaper to have stuck with the humans. All too late now of course.

I think it's Angel, and if I'm right then there's a bit of telephoto lens going on as that building with the dome is really a bit further away than it looks in the picture.

Silly question maybe, but is there any possibility that a fault in the audio outlets can make it impossible for the driver to hear the automated announcements in the cab of an S-stock whilst they continue to be heard by the passengers? Not suggesting this happened above, just a general query.

I have no idea how much scope for making the cars at Covent Garden bigger there really is, but having worked on a lift replacement project elsewhere, my guess would be that the increased capacity is going to come mainly from the second of the two stated reasons, i.e. faster running speeds.
