Sorry to bounce this topic, but I have learned that 5104-6104-6105-5105 is the next unit that shall go for the chop after 5173-6173-6172-5172, apparently it's side is buckled so badly that it's causing problems.
Well, I have heard rumours.

*passes metman a box of tissues* This is not good news. What happened to this unit?- a double ender none the less! Why are the couplers breaking? Age? Work Hardening may well play a part too - thought I must stress I'm not a metallurgist, though I've done a fair bit of materials work.

Just wondering, do you reckon there will be any A60s around next year on their 50th anniversary, or is the cutter's torch going to be working over-time?

There will be, as I think the first S stock is supposed to enter service in September 2010, and it will take a couple of years for all 58 to be delivered. Didn't A stock actually enter service in 1961?

There were testing and acceptance paths published in the Central Line WTTs until (I think) early '63 - but I'd have to rummage through the notes/library to check that.

5205's paint job is very very poor indeed. I didn't actually see 5105 at all during my stay in London.
Please take photos of 5173 before it's gone.

It's heartening to know that at least one 8 car set of A Stock will be saved from the scrap yard. To, no doubt, accommodate the RAT for leaf-fall season.

All the S Stock shall have de-icing equipment thus getting rid of the RAT.

I couldn't see anything wrong with it, but I only saw one side of it, and you might not be able to see the 'damage' anyway.

I just heard 5104-6104-6105-5105 was going next. I think that was the unit that had "Please Keep Clear of the Doors" in red polka dots back in the 70s

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

No, there will not be an 8 car set saved by LU. The LT Museum has reserved a single driving motor car with the option to secure a four car unit and associated spares if they feel they have the storage space.

Not all Met S stock will be de-icers. De-icing is a different thing to sandite. Ok, lets clear this up! 37.1% of the entire 'S' Stock fleet (7's and 8's) will be fitted with de-icing equipment and 100% of the entire fleet will be fitted with sleet brushes. In addition the fleet will also be fitted with sanders. There will be no RAT once we have completed the migration stage.
