Talking to a Met Senior at Ricky tonight and there's been 7 attacks of graffiti in the Harrow On The Hill - Rickmansworth area.
What's the point in 'tagging' your name on a wall? Waste of paint time and money F**ks me right off....

Over the bank holiday the Met was hit again 5 times. Looks like its gonna be really bad again when the kids break up for the week. Saw pictures the same guy took of a train stabled at watford over the weekend. 3 cars hit with some awful scribble. Id love to know where these little sh*ts are getting in then hold a sniper position there. Must be costing LUL Hundreds of thousands of pounds to repaint/clean! Disused stations where hit too. Marlborough Road aswell.... forget the names of the disused sation before baker street but that was hit pretty bad too... Old signal cabin near to watford curve was hit pretty bad too after just being cleaned.

You've got to be some sort of moron to rather be wandering round a dangerous rail line in the cold and dark than in a nice warm bed.

The Finchley Road-Baker St stations are Swiss Cottage, Marlboro' Rd and St Johns Wood (Lords). I can imagine there are plently of muppets out there willing to do it! If I saw anyone doing it I would dish out a major beating! Ricky was notorious for it a few years back, but generally things have improved. The A stock look bad enough without all that filth all over them. There was one train tonight that was in a real state, elements of the cab dome was down to the base coat and the front and sides had been sanded and not made good! Paint the damn trains!!!!! I really gets on my nerves.....

5000-5001 is in reasonable nick, but a lot of the other units look terrible! Some improvements have been made. I was in a unit yesterday 5054 I think that had a new piece of plywood added on the seat surround-yet to be painted mind you!

Its funny you should mention this because whilst travelling between Baker street and Watford this evening I noticed a few units with large pink patches on the front obv where the graffiti has been scrubbed off, has made a real mess of some trains.

The truth is that most prolific graffiti vandals are known to the BTP, they just have to catch them in the act. I attended an inquest on the death of two vandals in October last year and they both had criminal records going back several years, the bodies were actually identified by their fingerprint records.

The most infamous as im sure we know is "TOX", he certainly gets around! what really amazes me is some of the places they manage to get to to apply their tag.

The truth is that most prolific graffiti vandals are known to the BTP, they just have to catch them in the act. Indeed. When they [the BTP] are called to get a reference number for the vandalism, they ask if the tag says anything. Their response is sometimes "Oh, them. We'll pop round there later". The train is then sent to depot to await BTP to gather evidence The big problem is gathering significant evidence to gain a conviction.

Was out at Chalfont last night seeing a friend and train 430 was hit pretty bad.... Funk it sounds similar to what you described. Could have been you?? Around 2130?ish...
The same mate works for the Graffiti team on the met who has to report graffiti and i see a lot of photo EVERY NIGHT about new graffiti attacks. It really sickens me as to who and why someone would do this?! Do they not care or is it some sort of social heirarchy?

TOX dead-shame! I hear he was convicted and locked up! He did get everywhere didn't he! How often do A stock get overhauled these days? Are they given a repaint at the same time?

It isn't just A stock that they don't remove graffiti from properly. I saw a 1995TS yesterday that still had ''TOX.05'' on its door.

Really?! Gosh! It is strange that LU remove trains from service that get attacked (which is correct because image is important) but are slow to repaint damage etc!

Wasnt it on the central line they were trialing rip-strips that if damaged by graffiti could be ripped off and replaced with a new vinyl section, though some of these people go one step further and etch their tag in paint stripper which is harder to remove.

And there is also the 'acid tag' Get a cloth and use a cetrain acid then tag away in the windows. Looks a complete mess! Uxbridge was hit 7 times last week and Ruislip IMR and various other locations where hit really bad. Im gonna have to post up photos in here of damage being done so other members can get a perspective of whats happening to the met.

In reality, trains are only taken out of service if the graffitti is wet or offensive. However, the InfraCo should not offer a train for service if it has graffitti. They can of course be changed over with a depot train during the day.
Mr Signal Failure, personally I don't think putting photos of the vandalism on this site is a good idea. Perhaps get some admin feedback first? We don't want the morons googling and then coming here to see their "work"!
Acid etch graffitti is particuarly nasty, as you could have an unsuspecting passenger or staff member touch it and at first sight are not aware if it has been neutralised.

Wasn't a significant proportion of the Bakerloo(?) fleet unavailable due to acid etch graffiti one day last year?

I believe at some point LUL were working with whoever operates the New York subway to see how they combat the problem of graffiti though im not sure if anything ever came from it.
