Maybe put a glassine or a vinyl film over the trains haha would make any paint wipe off...
Its interesting how the same places are being hit. Wonders if they have cut the fencing again to get in, or jumping from a canal bridge over to the tracks`

Maybe put a glassine or a vinyl film over the trains They are trying that with the 1992ts at the moment (they use a special clear film called '3M scotch tape), round the cab areas mostly

Just make them clean it off... the punishment to last as long as it takes to pay for the damage... say they caused £5,000 worth of damage... 10 hours would pay back £55.20... you see where I am coming from?
After working all day and all night, I bet they won't want to cause damage again.

There seems to have been an upsurge in graffitti attacks recently.
I shall not be taking any train out with massive murals on it, or if it's in a siding, then to nearest depot ! If it has been applied on the road, then, it's out of service to depot !
I saw a C stock out last week (on the H & C) with murals extending part way over the windows and doors ...quite why the driver still had it in service bemuses me !
However what is to be gained by removing the tag only to leave the same tag effectively visible in bare metal is pointless.
Why so many C stock look a state, but for a quick spray of white or red paint !!! Even brand new refurb D stock are being hit, with the effects clearly visible after clean up.....I remain to be convinced anyone senior is serious about removing the visible effects of this vandalism !!!

What is the legal extent to which LUL can protect their property without infringing people's human 'rights' or laws? For example, cant electric fences be put up in place around open air sidings? Why not build cocoons around sidings? Surely it wouldnt be too expensive to apply metal sheeting with only a foot of clearance around the train? Something akin to a tube tunnel in terms of snug fit, but on the surface? Thats probably a daft idea though

A Stock is not really getting dignified treatment from the management.

Train maintainers need access to equipment under and along side of trains (fuses, shoes, tripcocks, de icing tanks, etc) so this is not practicable

As a result of the graffiti, 5205 is in a really bad way.

As I have said before with the new SSL trains, something needs to be done to prevent more of these useless and mindless graffiti. I was on one service from Harrow to Liverpool St and the patches and windows are just in a state. I just this craze dies down when the new stock rolls in.

cant we put high voltage electric fences in depots? that will teach the buggers note: this problem has been going on since 1986, now something serious needs to be done, the C stock are suffering quite alot especially the doors lol if you think the A stock are bad it's nothing compared to what the 62's and 59's were like in the 90's especially on the central

The main difference between the 90s and now is that graffiti is cleaned off within days now and in the 1990s it was left on for months.

I think the problem obviously lies in the fencing that lies around the track perimiter. Ive seen kids jumping small fences where they have kicked or cut it down. Ive also seen that as the last train depards the platform the little shits wait for the station staff to let the train go then run down the track! Cant exactly employ security guards as this will fail on obvious reasons. I think its just something where all going to have to live with unless more security cameras are put in.
O heres a thought.
Why not use Motion Activated FloodLights in highly hit areas like Depots, Sidings, also putting them in areas which dont have a lot of light cover. Mount a camera next to them too.
Being most of these vandals are scared of being caught, the moment a dirty great light shines on the back of them they will run for it. And it will all be on cam and i bet these little blighters already are well known to the Metropolitian Police or the BTP so a positive match quite possibly could be made!

Thats okay until they start pelting stones at the lights, or the local residents complain of light pollution... trouble is a lot of them wear face coverings. When they get caught once, just make them clean it off.

I agree to disagree, cleaning it off is an easy job depending on the artwork at hand. Therefore I am convinced that this is not a deterrant. You cant give them an ASBO as most of the degenerates that do this sort of crime think its a "Medal Of Honour" hence they will keep at it to climb their social ladder.
Dont use glass coverings on the metal, use a pearlised or high-polished come glossed plastic with a thin metal grill on the front of the lightbox so this cannot be smashed.
There HAS to be a way to stop this crime, even if its as simple as making ON TRACK POLICE PRESENCE a thing to be done. Get some BTP in High Visability clothing (H&S Reasons) that should have them thinking again.
Or just throw the shitbags with a £1000 fine and if not paid in 28days sling em in a young offenders or a jail and let the other jailbirds deal with them in the showers. haha
