There are train indicators in the booking hall at other stations too, [Finchley, Kentish and Tufnell, as well as others]
Might be the case Peter, but its not what I am looking for.
Right!
First clue!
Take a look above the platform name friezes.

…back from looking at old photos.
Er, I don’t know if it’s got anything to do with the quiz but interesting point… the cabling seems to be routed along the tunnel roof opposite the platform. Does this happen anywhere else?

Is it anything to do with the original station being lined with brick and then refurbed to cast tunnel lininng

Post by Tubeboy on Jun 26, 2007 13:46:57 GMT
No! I am very reliably informed the station tunnels are still brick lined, and always have been.
Read the question and clue VERY CAREFULLY!

Very longshot guesses:
Is the font-type on the station name unique to this station?
Is the tiling unique to this station?

Is it anything to do with the C&SL bores. Aren't they above the platform?

<clutching at straws in a gale after giving up in the haystack> The station tunnels still have the flattened base profile through being brick lined rather than segment lined.

Are the perforated wall mounted grids beneath the lights and above the station names anywhere else? Looks as if these were put in as trunking and not used as the cabling runs on the offside?

No to all guesses so far including PMs received. The train indicators is not right, it has already been said by several posters!
Right, next clue!
There is a uniqueness about this station, while it may be easy to come up from the platforms, soon, it might not be so easy doing it in the opposite direction.
Best of luck!

Never having been to Borough, I wondered in some insane way that the answer is to do with the lifts and exits.

Well, as in Covent Garden, where the only way out is lifts? (Technically at least). I presume that this could then be the only station without an escalator.......

But that doesn't make it unique, just because it's closing for whatever purpose that requires it to close!

Exit only as a result of partial closure? Doesn't make sense! Unless the lifts are being replaced and the stairs made upward only save for staff?
No idea otherwise, as usual.

Borough is the most northern of the original C&SLR stations. North of here the railway originally followed a different route than at present with the tunnels running to the original terminus at King William Street. This route was abandoned and new tunnels in the direction of London Bridge and Moorgate were constructed and opened in 1900.
