Having noted the film duration time I wonder if such a journey will take that long when carrying passengers (or longer / quicker?) and whether the train was travelling at what will be its normal speed between stations. Station Dwell Times have been calculated at 30 seconds for Bond Street, Custom House, Farringdon, Whitechapel and Woolwich and 60 seconds for Canary Wharf, Liverpool Street, Paddington and Tottenham Court Road. That would add 6.5 mins in dwell times plus and additional 30 seconds per station arrival/departure adding roughly 11 mins in total.

It appeared to be running at line speed between stations. The hoardings at stations used to show the projected journey times to key points. As explained on the other video in the release they are now running a scheduled service pattern with 8 trains running every 5 minutes.

What time is allowed to detrain at Paddington. Maybe like Barking sidings the train can approach the sidings at line speed although there is no approach track, like Barking, to the three turnback sidings.

Next question - where can I volunteer? It will be from employees and contractors. There are sometimes test events open to public volunteers, e.g. I went on one for the DLR Stratford International extension. I'd suggest following ianvisits' blog - www.ianvisits.co.uk/ (and/or follow on Facebook and Twitter) as the chances are that if there is anything public happening they will know and pass on the details.

The trial running is totally different to test events. It will take a considerable amount of time. It is essential that the systems are tested in advance of use by the public.

Work is needed to accommodate the full-length Elizabeth line trains at Liverpool Street station and a project is under way to lengthen platforms 16 and 17. Stage one of the works are due to be completed in a 10-day blockade over Christmas. All required designs have been submitted to Network Rail and are on track (sic) for approval in line with the programme. (TfL Investment Programme Report - Quarter 2 2020/21 - page 36) Reading and Heathrow: In Quarter 2, nine-car Class 345 services to Heathrow, using the European ETCS signalling system, stepped up to two trains per hour. Seven-car trains continued to operate on services to Reading, pending delivery of new software configuration to improve nine-car fleet reliability in Quarter 3. Stratford to Shenfield: Seven-car Class 345 trains continue to operate on this service and will continue to do so until Stage 4a is introduced in H1 2021/22 when they will be replaced with nine-car Class 345 trains. (page 38, H1 = first half April 2021 to March 2022 financial year) It seems platform 18 disappears Christmas 2020, 9-car trains from mid-2021 (?May), and Paddington to Shenfield service December 2022. So that is two years to operate the current service without platform 18.

What time is allowed to detrain at Paddington. Draft versions (circa. 2018, more recent versions may exist) of Crossrail Core Train Planning Rules give the time for a passenger train to form an Empty Coaching Stock service in the same direction as 1 minute, i.e. minimum dwell at Paddington.

Whitechapel Crossrail is *above* the other two lines?
Edit: Sorry, that's the concourse.

I can't say for sure but during my travels through Liverpool Street this week I have not seen any trains use platform 18, in fact on my way home yesterday there was a train queuing outside for an empty platform when 18 was empty so I'm going to go ahead and assume it has been taken out of use from last month as planned.
The odd thing however is that the ballast, sleepers and track for both platforms 17 and 18 have been renewed so I'm going to assume perhaps it's being kept as a siding? With all of the rooms that are on p18 I assume that we it will still remain accessible but of course will be majorly restricted by the platform 17 extension and will only be accessible by trains (8 cars or less) when platform 17 is empty so could absolutely be used by an empty train as a siding.

We have been told that although platform 18 is out of use, it can be used if platform 17 becomes inoperable.

They used to stable a GA train on 18 between the peaks. I'm assuming that was switched to Temple Mills or Ilford?

Nine-car class 345 were re-introduced to Reading on 22 December 2020. Liverpool Street mainline blockade over Christmas went well, with another planned for Easter, and nine-car from Shenfield later in 2021. Mark Wild letter to A Moore 18 Jan 2021

Towards the end of Mark Wild's January update there was also a mention on station rebuild progress outside the core (Network Rail's responsibility) with some re-built stations opening soon. A separate January update for the west stations stated the new station buildings at Acton Main Line and West Ealing should open soon. I live close to West Ealing station and I can testify it looks to be progressing quickly now. The station structure has been complete for several months and the internal fit-out looks to be nearing completion. The gateline is in. The most obvious area to complete are resurfacing immediately in front of and to the sides of the station (this appears to be prepared for work this week).

The project update for February was released recently: tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/alison-moore-montly-update-12-february-2021.pdfTo give some context, previously it's been stated that the start of trial running will mark 9~12 months before full passenger operation can begin. Towards end of 2020, the hope was that trial running would start in Q1 2021 (i.e. by end of March). According to the update above, the majority of the stations are no longer a blocking issue.

I actually wouldve been confused as Q to me wouldve meant quarter ie quarter of a year which wouldve meant by end of March for me

Without wanting to veer too off topic this is because the tax year, and therefore financial year of many companies and institutions in the UK begins on the 6th of April. This is for wonderfully complex historical reasons. The full way to quote tax years would be Q1 21/22 but the shorthand is fairly common.

Does anyone know what type of PLATFORM announcements will be used on the core/abbey wood branch? Will it be the London Overground style announcements or the usual National Rail ones voiced by Anne
In addition, will the outer section station PLATFORM announcements be changed or just be retained as they are, only replacing the "TFL RAIL" bit with "ELIZABETH LINE"

Does anyone know what type of announcements will be used on the core/abbey wood branch? It will be exactly the same as the announcements currently are on 345 TFL Rail services although I hope they will be a bit less "bodged" as anyone who's travelled on the trains currently will attest to.

Apologies, I should have been clearer. I am talking about the platform announcements I don't think there will be any next train announcements in the core. There are twin displays above every pair of doors on the platforms. High quality.

Visual information is of no use to those with visual impairments.
Whilst there is no law covering real time information on stations, unlike trains, there are various standards and codes of practice that require next train announcements. Reasonable mitigations to comply with the Equality Act should be welcomed.
It is also important to note that Crossrail is *not* a tube line, but rather a heavy rail metro-style network. As announcements appear for trains on Thameslink and London Overground - and the existing TfL Rail stations - I think we can be reasonably certain that they will appear.
Several elements of signage have already had to be replaced because of this “it’s a tube line” thinking.
