Actually you would only need the ELL map in the 378/1s as they are not equipped to run on the NLL/WLL. If LO would permanently assign those 378/2s running on the ELL then that would hold for them too and would also eliminate the need for dual maps in the 378/2s permanently assigned to NLL/ELL. When the 710/3s are introduced on the NLL/WLL they would only need one map as they cannot run on the ELL as they lack a front cab door. It will be interesting to see what is adopted for the 710/2s as they will form a common pool for GOB and DC so probably dual maps. The 710/1s will probably have a map for the WA line and possibly a small Rom-Ump map displayed in a corner?

Why would the 710/1s need a Romford-Upminster map? I thought that was going to be run by a single retained 315

I can't even see how that would be beneficial. It's pretty much accepted as a universal fact on another forum. It was even mentioned in a board paper (will try to find it later)

In many ways using a 'better than most' condition 315 (rather than an expensive brand new train) would make sense on such a light duty. Especially as the train barely travels faster than (what seems like) walking pace. But, what might be important here is the availability of spares etc., for maintenance purposes.

Might it not be useful to move the stuff about which rolling stock is to be used on the Romford to Upminster service into a thread on its own as it seems a pertinent question as to whether brand new rolling stock is warranted on a short, lightly used line?
Apologies to the mods and admins if I have overstepped the mark in making the above suggestion.

I don't think there's a need to for the 5 or so posts, but if we wander off-topic again I'm sure that it'll be reviewed.

Apologies to the mods and admins if I have overstepped the mark in making the above suggestion. Admin commentNo need to apologise. All the forum staff are open to suggestion (no giggling at the back thank you!), we only tend to get annoyed when we ask you to do something and you don't follow our "words of advice".

Noticed a PIS announcement update for New Cross Gate but in a different tone. "Alight here for Goldsmiths, University of London"
