Hmm, I read whats being said here with dismay but not surprise... something which in the past was permitted is not now.
I was going to use the July events to also film S stock trains on the 4 track section in west London, so that I can make some more contrasts films with 1990's footage and the little super 8 footage of CP/CO and R stocks which I filmed in the 1980s.

Mk1 and MK2/3 coaches must have run on the tunnel sections of the District to reach Upminster open days ond the Gatex /electric loco tours.There were no connections to NR then.

Mark 2s certainly did, although I doubt the longer mark 3s could. In any case, the current prohibition on the TC set might not be for gauging reasons.

There is word from inside that a new Steam on the Met event is being planned for the Autumn. LTM are awaiting approval for the event to take place with Met No.1, 4TC set and Sarah Siddons.

Like all threads, the mods / admins monitor things and if the thread diverges from its original purpose, then we may act upon that.

Very good news, I was always skeptical about the 2018 deadline for restoration of the 35 and 38 units to operational running. However, I look forward to seeing it on display. It's looking more likely that Quainton will be it's grave to me.

I believe that they fund and undertake the work on the cars themselves. I briefly spoke to the some 3 years ago when they gave me a guided tour. Back then they hoped to get the unit under cover...

Thanks. Yes, I was aware of the group of owners / volunteers who are 'slowly' restoring the unit. The problem is that no substantial progress is being achieved. I spoke to someone who is a regular visitor at the Bucks Railways Centre who inspected the unit and told me that parts of all three cars are in worse shape and corrosion is becoming more evident as it's exposed even more to the elements. Hopefully a long term plan is in place and I still give my full support for the project.

Since it doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet, the 4TC + 353 are running with Met 1, L150 and the obligatory diesel on 10 and 11 September. More information here353 is almost sold out, but there is plenty of space in the 4TC.

If you like encouraging news, I did read a comment from one of the Carriage and Wagon dept. at the IOW steam railway, that the MR rigid 8 stock would make a good future restoration. N.B. The rigid 8 stock currently resides as a row of beach huts.

The MET rigid 8-wheelers must have been the earliest example of ex-Underground stock going to the IOW. A keen eye needs to be kept on beach huts and suchlike. Many items deemed to be 'lost' still survive in this form.

The parts include the door engines but not the motors or traction equipment if I understand. They will have a motor generator but otherwise maybe authentic!
They are even casting up replacement lamp shades for the Q38s!

If money was no object in restoring to line use, is there enough CO/CP R stock around to make a running train feasible? To the best of my knowledge there are 7 surviving cars of CO/CP & R stocks: CO/CP53028-013063-54233: located at Quainton (Buckinghamshire Railway) 54256: Was misreported as moving from the Whitwell & Reepham Railway, Norfolk for the Epping & Ongar Railway back in September 2015. I had a conversation with a senior employee of the railway who was unaware of any arrangements being made for the car to arrive at the EOR, nor did it ever arrive at Ongar or North Weald - current location unknown. R Stock21147: located at Pump House Museum in Walthamstow 22624: located at Mangapps Farm Railway 22679: located at the LT Museum Acton IMO none will ever operate again, not for the want of trying... certainly with regards to the 3 cars at Quainton Just dragging up an old thread rather than starting a new one....21147 Does anyone know where this currently is please? As i understand it, it used to be at the Pump House Museum in Walthamstow, and was then moved to the 'Routemaster Heritage Centre, Hanwell' which was basically a huge storage yard close to the GWML at West Drayton? That yard was cleared for Crossrail/electrification works i think and now Wikipedia says it is at 'Men at Work TV and Film Props' company on a trading Estate in Egham: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Underground_R_Stock#Withdrawal_and_preservationIt is certainly on their website, here: menatwork.co.uk/underground-tube-carriage/and menatwork.co.uk/underground-train-1949/However, Men At Work appear to be based on a trading estate on Trumpers Way, back in Hanwell, not Egham. The R stock had a constant whine noise which I suppose can be attributed to the electrics required for the fluorescent tubes. Also, some of the R stock was much newer than the rest - dating from the late 1950's. btw, I did once try to record sound, using a cassette tape machine. But the technology let me down. Simon
