Am hoping to be in London on Sat. I'm expecting there will be around 4-6 D stocks in service. Does that sound like a reasonable estimate for how many D's might be?

Thanks for posting this, I was in London today and this information was very useful. I travelled on and filmed 7016 + 7527 and 7032 + 7057, and also saw a couple of others pass while I was on board an S7. There was a D end unit on its own stabled completely inside the shed at Ealing Common Depot, just visible from passing trains at the Ealing end of the depot.

Today, the hottest September day in London for 100 years, I had to take a trip to my old haunt, Westminster. Having spend about 15min at Tower Hill on an empty S stock keeping cool on the way out, the time came to return just after 2000, with me looking forward to air con all the way to Mile End. D78s 7007+7070 rolled in, much to my horror (and unhappy recollections of sweltering journeys in the early 80s before they were fitted with opening quarterlights) However it was quite nostalgic a trip, and not quite as unpleasant a journey with the refurbed stock to Mile End as I feared. It'll probably be the last time I take a D stock home, and I have almost come to regard them as old friends!

Can confirm those numbers....11,34 & 35 almost made a quartet together (twice) at Upminster spoilt by 12 being an S! Rare occasion now to get 2 D's in the station at the same time...and twice on my late shift in the cabin there today...only as everything was, near as dammit, right time. Kevin

I was in a line SPAD meeting the other day and it was stated that D stock will still be with us till May 2017.
I don't know how many though.....

I expect they are keeping a few back to cover for S stock absence. They will have to use them sparingly though, otherwise the mileage will rack up. We don't want no available trains for the D stock farewell runs!

Sounds like the Intruder Alarm was sounding, sometimes a false or no indication is given at the drivers end.
