3 back out today (so far at 0920): T4 7034+7513 Rmd-Upm (Saturday & Sunday) T14 7018+7007 Rmd-Upm (Saturday & Sunday) T60 7526+7037 Wim-THill (Saturday and until 0600 Sunday) T4 and T14 continue running until Sunday night, T60 until 0600 Sunday, so Ds will see in 2017. There were still only the three D stocks by late afternoon. Not sure if any of the four evening Upminster starters were D's. 7018 had bad flats! Was that the best unit they could find? Maybe the only one prepped

It was an Upminster starter. Surely an S7 could have gone out instead? T14 was an 0540 ECom starter in Saturday AM. T4 on Saturday returned to ECom early, so came out as T32 today. Also out today are: T17 7030+7535 T35 7032+7057 T46 7016+7533 T50 7012+7095

And then there were 9.
Is this a one off withdrawal (for now) or the beginning of the end for the D's? Perhaps they've decided that they don't really need them.

Another thing in mind - the removal of the D stock trains, means that the last ever trains without any automatic train operation equipment on board, will disappear from the Underground completely. The 1972 stock trains on the Bakerloo did have some automatic equipment on board, but I heard that it was stripped out on refurbishment in the 1990's to provide spares for the Victoria line trains back then.

The 73ts? According to SquareWheels when describing the controls in the 73ts cab: At extreme right, with the yellow key in the top, is the selector switch; this is used to select forward, reverse, (automatic is not connected!), a test mode and to shut the train down. So I suspect the stock was designed with Auto in mind. However, this isn't linked to D Stock formations; lets keep things on topic - start a new thread if you need to.

As much as I'll miss the D's, why is money being wasted on heavy maintenance for trains that have 3 or 4 months service? As has been mentioned before, there are enough S stocks to run the whole District service. Yes, keep the D's running, but when they reach the need for maintenance, withdraw them.

I know for sure that the heavy maintenance team at Ealing common was disbanded. Don't think any heavy maintenance is taking place, but there is no reason not to do the planned maintenance. They would just be using up spare parts that they would have left in the stores.

I just accidentally caught a snippet of EastEnders. Good to see that they are still riding around in D Stock.

It's quite sad seeing them dwindle one by one. Any candidates for the last one left in service?

I guess that's the heaviest maintenance of all completed.
