With thanks to Metman for bringing it to our notice, the LT Museum website now has six trips advertised using A Stock on 19th May for the Rickmansworth Festival. Times and prices as follows, (I assume the times are at Rickmansworth): Trip 1: 10.07 - 10.46 Price £5 Trip 2: 11.08 - 12.13 Price £15 Trip 3: 12.42 - 13.46 Price £15 Trip 4: 14.08 - 15.16 Price £15 Trip 5: 15.38 - 16.46 Price £15 Trip 6: 17.08 - 17.36 Price £5 The website doesn't appear to say where the trips go, the link for the timetable doesn't work! Anyway get your credit cards out, here's the link to the website: ticket.ltmuseum.co.uk/peo/default.asp then click all events on the left hand side and scroll down.

I've booked mine!
From what I remember,
Trip 1 is Harrow-Amersham Trip 2-5 is Amersham-Ricky-Harrow-Amersham Trip 6 is Amersham-Harrow
Not sure which unit it will be, could be 5112. Perhaps there will be a trial run in the coming weeks??

Sadly, I think that 5112/3 will never carry passengers again, looking at the photos of it shunting 5595 to its collection point, the inside looked like a bit of a mess and the luggage racks were gone... Probably will be 5110 or 5235, my betting is on 5110 as it has been comparatively underworked during the past two years...

Has a complete train of A stock been preserved, then? I thought that just one car was to be saved.

There are 3 units outstanding. 2 (5110 and 5234) are dedicated rail adhesion trains with 5th cars (sandite trailers 5036 5132) to run in the autumn. There is also unit 5112 at Acton works which is a body spares. I does the odd jobs like moving spare cars around. I believe its luggage racks have been removed

No I didn't think it was. Someone mentioned 6132 was at Neasden but I thought it was at Acton works. 5036 (5116) and 5132 are long gone. I remember filming 5207-6207-6206-5206+5133-6133-5132 the day she went.

I'm confused. Does that mean they're running a train of A-stock on the Ricky Festival weekend, or is there to be just one coach, coupled up to something else?

No it will be a four car unit. The unit concerned is to be announced. See the timetable a few posts above....

So is it likely that this event will be the last ever A Stock to see passengers on it or is it likely that Neasden/Acton will keep one permanently in working order for future events in following years?

Ah, OK. I'm not a numbering officianado so I didn't realise that "units" meant 4-car sets. I thought they were all numbered individually.

That confuses me as well - as I understand it a unit is known by the lowest number (usually a DM) of the vehicles making up the unit. This is different from NR practice where there are separate unit numbers and carriage numbers - e.g unit 483001 is made up of cars 121 and 221. 172001 is made up(I think) of 50001 and 79001 Having the last digits match the unit number is a fairly new departure.

No reason to think it will be the last. The two sandite trains are (AFAIK) being kept in a state they are able to carry apssengers. In the long term it is hoped one will be preserved as heritge train. But clearly this depends on space and presumably funding.

I'm hoping that all 3 will be kept operating but 5110 and 5234 have been set aside for RAT duties for a while. It is hoped that one or more units will be preserved.

IMHO, I think 5112 has a future for as long as it has to shunt dead C and D Stock to their collection points, so I think that it will still be about at the beginning of 2016.

I hope a few are kept operating, I am seriously suffering from withdrawal symptons due to lack of 'A' stock!
Brilliant news that a x4 car will be operating in May, that really is something to look forward to and assuming it all goes to plan, a massive thank you to the organisers!

I will, unfortunately, be unable to participate in the festivities as I am involved in the actual canal festival itself on the day.

Not yet although I did see one of the units receiving attention last week. Both units are now parked back in the engineering siding at the back of the depot. You never know, the train may run as 8 cars?!
