So, now we are only one week away from the event, do we know what is going to be running? My bet is still in 5111.

I'm on run 3 for the A stock and run 4 for the '38 stock - a poor effort at co-ordination, sorry Hope to see some of you there.

So, now we are only one week away from the event, do we know what is going to be running? My bet is still in 5111. 5111 was out on test yesterday, it was working T711. In my opinion it wasn't looking its best.

I'll be stewarding the A Stock all day. Please don't put your feet on the seats or try and force the doors open or anything.

There have been a couple of instances with the 38 Stock of passengers on a platform thinking that it is a service train and trying to board it if it stops.

Does anyone know whether the special A Stock and 38 stock runs will use the slow or fast lines north of Harrow on the Hill? Just pondering photographic possibilities but don't want to stand on a platform and have the train whizz past on the fasts.

I'm sure the trains will be running on the fast lines! Moor Park or North Harrow is probably your best bet.

You would like to think that members of this forum wouldn't do such things, but you never know! I am reminded of the problems at Chesham on the A Stock farewell tour. When I was last on the 38stock we were stopped at Ricky with the doors open and a Yoof sprinted for the train, fell into it and parked them selves on a seat. They lifted their feet to put them on the seat opposite at which point they realised something wasn't quite right (maybe it was all the eyes staring at them) and they slowly put their feet back on the floor.

Chiltern trains have not been retimed and are using the fast line, and the A stock is timed to travel significantly slower than these, so I would guess the slow lines, but I am not sure

So can anyone confirm what unit(s) are running today? Thanks

I would have thought the A stock would have to be on the fast line as it will be reversing in Platform 2 and hence can only use the main line!

5110 and 5111 in service. Trip 1 used fast lines thus avoiding regular service cancellations. A60 Stock by Trowbridge Estate, on Flickr

Just for the sake of saying. A-ha! I was right!
On a serious note; it is lovely to see an A Stock in some form of service again...

Sorry to be pedantic over gmnauk's video, but that's 5110/1, not 5111/2...

Absolutely lovely day, thoroughly enjoyed being able to ride on an A stock again! First time travelling on the Met line this year!

I'd like to echo that statement. A huge thank you to everyone for organising it. Got to ride in both the A and 38 stock and it bought a smile to my face! Nice to see a few members out and about to.

How was 5110 going, given the past couple years of near inactivity? Also was the interior spick 'n' span?

5110 was ok, motors quiet, but felt very tight, as if it had been serviced recently. 5111 was much more of the normal 'in service' feel.
I (and Metman and Fahad whose company I had the pleasure of today) enjoyed the day thoroughly and also would like to extend my thanks to all involved in organising todays event.

After spending over six hours on an A Stock today I don't think I'm going to tire of them any time soon. We weren't massively busy, which is most likely a result of everybody saving themselves for next weekend.
I think it's fair to say that the interior state of the remaining units isn't great. There is quite a bit of scratchitti, some supposedly originating on the last public run.

I think it would be interesting to know what kind of spares pool there is left for the A60 Stock. I am not counting 5112 as spares just yet...

There is quite a bit of scratchitti, some supposedly originating on the last public run. I'd say the state is average for a old train but far from worse than the rapidly ailing C69/77 fleet. Some of the doors on the latter (C69/C77) were rubbing against the body, resulting in obvious scratches. As far as I know they still have rolls of unused triangle moquette so the seats might be refreshed, but LTM doesn't know which one of the 3 four-car units they will have permanently, and which one will have a less glamorous role as a works unit.

As much as I'd like to see 5110 be properly cleaned and brought back to how it was when it was first refurbished it was nice to travel on 5110 yesterday in the state it's currently in. The worn look added to the nostalgia value and just felt like time had gone back a year or two when I was out with my friends bashing the A stock most weekends and after school!
