Just back from an evening out in London preceded by a very enjoyable few hours on the Met chasing A stock with some pretty lively runs so here's a rundown of formations seen during the afternoon. Hopefully this will be of use to anyone heading out that way over New Year: 406: 5213+5077 411: 5062+5190 412: 5082+5224 416: 5044+5096 423: 5120+5122 424: 5183+5073 425: 5113+5024 427: 5193+5071 430: 5022+5092 441: 5151+5079 442: 5128+5164 443: 5219+5099 445: Unknown A stock 446: 5100+5060 (train number not confirmed) 447: Unknown A stock 451: 5105+5011 452: 5130+5188 454: 5094+5160 456: 5088+5147 Unknown train numbers: 5229+5052 and 5117+5019 5014 was moving around on its own inside Neasden 5134+5214 and 5103+5108? Wembley Park stablers 5040+? and 5221+? Uxbridge stablers 401, 403, 414, 421, 422, 431, 444, 453 all S stock worked P.S. 5212 suffering bad flats!!

5060 and 5062 50 years passenger service yesterday 23/12./quote] Mind you, 5060 spent a long time out of service in late 1975/early 76 being fitted with the trial D&M brake equipment, then I guess another period having it removed and the standard brake controls refitted in the 1980s(? not sure when, I helped make it work, not remove it!). When it had the D&M equipment it could only operate as a 4 car, so must have done a lot of Chesham service.

You're so right about 5060. I remember thinking at the time when I first started observing A stock that 5060 didn't exist! As you say, eventually it did appear and T60 (Chesham Shuttle) was where you would find it. Of course, not being a de-icing unit, there were several months it couldn't perform this duty. Another place to then see it was the ELL when A stock formed this service from 1977.
5000 is still formed up with 5231 - T407 today (revised train numbering today/tomorrow). One update: 5138+5153.

31/12/2011: Last night I went into town and was lucky enough to see..
5149+5040 5107+5034 5213+5076 5191+5062 5097+5044 and was fortunate to ride in 5072 which was attached to 5183. 5072 still has the old maps which is a clear indication it only has days left. It was quite a sad journey, and will certainly be the last time I ever travel in 5072.

I has been down to go along with 5074, 5191 and 5227 for a while. 5074 did actually last year but the other three units were kept due to the problems with the S stock.

I was on 5191 the other day which has been fitted with the new maps and I remember thinking 'why have they bothered to fit the new maps given this unit's imminent withdrawal'. So, you never know! Somebody will hopefully advise us of the revised scrap move timings as they will inevitably have changed as a result of WTT331's introduction. Of course, it may be that the resumption of withdrawals will see them taken out by train. We wait and see

T717 (8 car A Stock) is booked to run 9th/16th/23rd January 6th/13th/20th/27th Feb & 5th March at the moment. However it was also booked to run on 12th & 19th Dec but was cancelled. Times are:

Saw them at West Harrow at lunchtime. Was just thinking it's nice to see the oldest service unit out and about. Also the last of the 'black roof' trains.

5203 was withdrawn last year! 5203 is still running and is the last one from the 5200-5209 series remaining.

Yes, I noted 5010+5227 on the way home earlier and wondered whether 5227's time was up over the next day or so. 5010's imminent departure was obviously more of a surprise.

The following formations noted yesterday. Managed to do the whole Met line on A stock between 1010 and 1540 without going on any S stock. Lots of late running in the morning so I had a bonus run along the fast line from Harrow to Moor Park on 5188+5130. Quite a few sets changed turn during the day.
