All the trains are being wrapped in anti graffiti tape but this is a one off

Does anyone known the car numbers of the end cabs (will make it easier to track down in service!)

Ah, that's what it was. At speed it looks like a helluva lot of graffiti. My friend took it to school by chance, and apparently there was a free soft toy replication of that mascot guy..which is good, because she gave it to me

You know, it's not as hideous as I was expecting. Not sure about the red hand-rails/pink seat combination when it comes to RVAR though...

Is it the lighting, or do the seat cushions look knackered? Full of little bumps and imprints, if that makes sense?

When I booked on Thursday I was told by the DTSM on the desk that it went defective the day before and had to be withdrawn. Wonder if we refunded the advertisers for the time it was in the yard?

This train was back in service at Ealing Broadway on Friday. Seats seemed more comfy than the knakered old red ones anyway.

It went past as I was walking to Woodford Station yesterday around 2.30pm and was in the reversing siding a few minutes later. I thought it looked quite smart! ...........Apart from the pink seats/red handrails thing as mentioned above.

I quite like the pink seats. They go better with the line's colour scheme than the Smurf blue. "Get Set For Digital" the seats blurb. *On Digital* - the terrestrial precursor to Freeview started out around 1998 I think. It's quite amazing that fourteen years later some people are still watching analogue. What's going to happen for those with really old TVs that have no scart or A/V input. Apart from an RF modulator for a Freeview box to plug into, I suppose it's waving off your old telly for recycling, or the tip. In other words. The concept of this train is, for most, a little too late. It makes a nice change though............
Darken those seats down a bit and get rid of the digital blurb and you have, in my opinion a better look than the blue. No hang on, I've an idea. Replace the digital blurb with. "Don't eat smelly food on this train, and take your litter home with you"

As long as your TV has some kind of aerial input (which it would anyway!) it can do digital TV, as a lot of digital converters out there have a co-ax output aswell. Before co-ax was standard, twin wire was used, but thats back in 405-era. If youre still watching a 405 line TV you'd have got a line standards converter anyway, so hooking that to freeview shouldn't be a problem. There is a video somewhere of a 1937 Cossor picking up digital TV using a lines converter and a freeview box...

All but a handful of Freeview decoders these days no longer have RF modulators. So SCART is a must.

All but a handful of Freeview decoders these days no longer have RF modulators. So SCART is a must. Yes, I agree - SCART or your three phono plugs.......... The only terrestrial digi box I've had with an RF modulator in it was a subscription OnDigital box from 98. I've still got it, even though ITV Digital who took over the OnDigital service wanted it back. There may of been others as more tellys back then had only a co axial input. These days the co axial input/output found on some Freeview boxes is only a pass through loop with no RF signal. You can buy RF modulators on eBay for about £20. Or perhaps you could pass the digi box output through a VHS machine and use the RF output from that. But really, is it worth it? Still, there must be some people about who still have an analogue telly up in the spare room or even as the main set. In my opinion they're no worse off than someone with an all singing all chicken-dancing-on-a-hot-plate Olly Murs SKY Plus HD. I flick through the channels when the ads come on, and the other satellite channels are showing ads at the same time. A privilege I pay for........... Anyway, that Freeview train looks good. I like it, which comes as a big surprise to me and Ceiling Cat as we thought it'd look a right mess. Why stop there? I'm sure other organisations and companies would like to do the same..................Ring Ring - "Good Morning TFL advertising. How can I help?" - " Hi, this is Ann Summers, I was wondering about you tarting up a train for our company. Why not visit our website to get some ideas..........."

Shouldn't the Underground be getting a refund from 3M as I seem to remember that in an article in Modern Railways a few years ago it was stated that the tape used on the 92 stock was guaranteed not to discolour for something like 20 years?

Ceiling Cat has been feeding me false information alert. It seems there *are* Freeview boxes available for purchase with RF modulators built in..............check out this baby............. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ICECRYPT-T5000-DIGITAL-FREEVIEW-RECEIVER-RF-MODULATOR-/250888332836?pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL&hash=item3a6a1c2624Damn n blast, that looks a sexy box what with the LED readout n all. "Buy It Now" indeed. I'm tempted. With that I could get my old Sony Trinitron portable down from the loft. The telly I bought as a reward from GEM in Leytonstone High Road for passing out as guard in 1978. Stupidly, I also bought a Betamax recorder the size of Wembley Stadium at the same time. The telly stilll works after all these years.................... I decided to look on eBay after receiving my Digital Switchover booklet ( it's not a digital switch over, more of an analogue turning off ) through my slot this morning. Page 8 is the relevant, ermm, page. I made Ceiling Cat read it. She raised her eyes heavenwards and went back to sleep in her basket under the table next to the radiator. "Don't work too hard for that £61k I read about in yesterday's ES, and don't slam the door on your way out" she yawned............ The Switchover train was out n about today. Still looking good. I'm glad it was just a booklet shoved through my slot this morning, and not the train......................

Many thanks Yes, sorry. Ceiling Cat and I have tried to keep it pertinent by mentioning the Freeview train ( which has taped up cabs ) in every post.............. Talking of which I didn't pass it today. It's usually used on the Epping to Ruislip service. My guess is so it can be seen from the OAP homes and granny flats on those roads. "What does "Get Ready For Digital" mean Ethel? It's on that train which has just gone past the window" - " I don't know Edna. Gracious, there's no picture on the television, better call in the repair man...."

How anachronistic -a train covered in tape is being used to inform people about a digital switchover XF Well yes, but the laminating that's being done looks so good that one has to take a close inspection to see the joins. The worst of the taped up cabs are being replaced with completely new cab exteriors that give a brighter and different look from its front aspect. Same with the rear ends of the cars. So along with the new window surrounds and seats the trains are starting to look somewhat different to how they were when they were first built. Underneath the floor much of the train is completely new. So how does one now designate this train? - "92 tube stock ongoing" I suppose............ What does Mabel from the old people's home at East Acton think? "I don't know anything about laminating dear. Is that why there's no picture on my telly?"

How about the "92 etc. tube stock", or even the "1992 and all that tube stock".

If they do things down there like they did up here years ago, you loose BBC 2 first, then the whole lot dies. I'm not sure if Mabel does BBC 2 though; the train doesn't say much about a phased transition - see, still on topic! ;D
