Is it me or are there a few more cabs now that have no tape? Today I saw a good three at Leytonstone while waiting for my train with no tape! Can anybody confirm if stuff is being fixed? Or am I just seeing stuff

Some of them are to be 'fixed' on the 1992 referesh, but I was under the impression this was due to start in April, apart from trial unit 91183.
But perhaps they have begun .... ?
** Edit ** - Maybe the ones you saw were recent repairs, e.g. Mile End derailment, collisions, etc. ??

How many have been fixed in collisons? I thought it was only the Mile End one. And that was an east end facing unit. I guess though because of the loop they can switch ends, but don't most trains that run into woodford via haniault go back the same way?
Sorry going a little off topic there.

Some cabs have been completely refurbished a while ago. I believe auxsetreq recently uploaded a picture in one of the Topic's here in the Central Line thread.

There have been several collisions, serious derailment damage and various other incidents where units have had to go away for repair. These go back to as early as 1993 (!) and my records show that 2 went to Derby in the early days (1993-1998), 21 have been to Crewe (2001-2008) and 2 to Wolverton (2010-2011), of which one is there now. Not all of them have involved cab ends, however.

Yes I'm sure!!! It's only that on other lines there haven't been "incidents" requiring cars to be sent further affield for repairs nearly as much!

Regarding when the work is taking place, I heard March not April. A post on another board suggests that the refresh will occur in conjunction with the new timetable (6 March), with 2 less trains to facilitate the refresh.

Indeed, new timetable starts Sunday with the two "hot spares" taken out so that they can do refurb. Do not expect much, it's been scaled back from the original plan.

...it's been scaled back from the original plan. Out of interest, in what way has it been scaled back? I know that the original plan was to see modified lighting, new LED front displays, new seating/moquette, windows and external body parts painted. They could also do with fitting in better speakers but I'm sure this isn't a priority!

They are fitting the LED internal lighting, replacing the passenger seats, new moquette on the seats (new TfL pattern), replacing the side windows (slightly smaller), and "The final part of the process is replacing the aluminium panels at the end of carriages. Only 250 of the cars will have these replaced, at a rate of five week, but a study has been completed to make sure those in most need are first in the queue. When fitted, instead of nine panels, there are only three, meaning fewer joints, which prevents seepage."
The front/rear displays will not be changed and nothing has been mentioned about new paint/vinyl.
Originally £118m allocated, cut to £16m !

That's the most important thing - new paintwork, and fixing the leaks. One seat I saw this week had a puddle big enough to launch aircraft carrier into it. The exteriors of some of them are in such a bad way due to vandalism they just have to be done. To ferry punters to the Occultic Games in trains that are in such an awful state on the outside makes doing up the inside all a bit pointless. I assume the LED lighting is to increase the length of time for the emergency lighting to remain on in the event of a power failure. From 10 mins to 15. Supposed to be up to two hours with the present lighting set-up so I'm told, but that's ni-cads from Poundland for you. The new moquette is called Landmark - Looks like the Wheel and that big pointy thing going up that had a fox up it. The SEX theme continues..............

Smaller windows? Does that mean bigger seals then? Also, why the need for LED lighting? Spend the money on the train desto display! The present lights are fine!

Auxsetreq was the one who brought up the words in the moquette. I can't see it myself.

OK, I've held my laptop everywhich way you can, and I can't see it. Maybe I'm just naieve. Don't worry, you're not naieve at all as such a thing doesn't exist. What does exist is Firefox and it's free spell checker that's helped me out on many an occasion, especially in *February* to my great*surprise*. Two words with an unnecessary < always probs with that ( now there's three ) rear in the middle, but unnecessary doesn't have an rear in it at all, just an unnecessary N, and a confusing C............. Take a libation or two, sit on the train, slouch n gurgle n stare at the moquette. SEX will leap out at you for nothing. The advantage being that you won't have to take it for dinner or worse marry it.................I stare at seats a lot these days, sad I know.........

Well it looks as though we're gonna have to up the ante. There's this plant called Datura aka The Devil's Trumpet. It's used by the shamans of Central and South America to induce altered states of conciousness <<<<<Ha! Spell checker has flagged up. Halt, stop Auxybaby, I'm in error.......consciousness, that's it, forgot the S. Where was I? Oh yeah, take a trip to Mexico and try some Datura. You'll have to nick a sex moquette train seat to take with you. I'm assured that this will get you to see sex, and a lot more............

Whatever it is you've been drinking..... Can I have a pint of it please ;D Certainly - Barman!!! - A pint of G & T with a twist of Devil's Trumpet on ice perleeeze. If he can't see SEX in the moquette after one of those, that's 'cos he'll be passed out, or possibly deceased. It's important to look at the old moquette, not the new Landmark which to my utter horror has one *O*, two *Ls* and perhaps the tail of a *Y* When gazing, it's also important make sure the seat opposite is vacant, and not occupied by some bloke with legs akimbo...............

91/92185 is the unit you need to check out. 91 has the new exterior window frames and what I thought was matt paint is in fact some kind of white laminate, very well applied, no bubblin', but only enough to cover the *perturbation* by mentalists. This unit may very well be a trial as it has the new Landmark moquette, and very striking it is too. Looks plush and takes the starkness of the interior away. New flush to the ceiling lighting, leaving more room for Ceiling Cat to keep an eye on things. And.................a new cab end. It appears to be in two parts that don't seem to be welded. An upper and lower part with a clearly visible gap between the two. A massive improvement on the Sellotape afffair....................

Have they given the grab poles a lick of paint by any chance? In some cars the paint has flaked off...

Have they fixed or replaced some of the T/Op's who speak at such a low level only dogs can hear the announcement.

Just to clarify though, the one main thing that passengers have always complained about, the seat 'cushions', have not changed? Sans moquette.
