All my postings concerning A Stock are purely from my daily observations. I'm not party to any 'inside knowledge' concerning long term strategy regarding SSL rolling stock I'm afraid! I'm just delighted at the fact that nearly three months on since the departure of 5006 and 5179, apart from the recent developments concerning 5066, we've lost no more A stock. However, that's a situation that won't last for too much longer I suspect.

@ A60
Unfortunately the music has to be rubbish as Youtube's audioswap feature only features rubbish songs!

Well, could have had me fooled , that is great that there is another hold-up in disposal. 5066, still strikes me as being a versatile and historically interesting unit, surely it would make more sense to preserve it in the end.

@ A60 Unfortunately the music has to be rubbish as Youtube's audioswap feature only features rubbish songs! The music is Bring Me To Life by Evanescene which has been a favorite of mine since it was first released and in some ways is very appropriate song. Xerces Fobe - Rocks ;D

Youtube gives everything and anything a bad name. It's gone downhill.
How many units of A stock have been scrapped since introduction?

And 5171, 5197 - 517x series do seem to have suffered badly. charlie J, XercesForbe - I'm not one of who wishes to b*tchsl*p his hoe, if you wish to put it that way, but I'm not my drama teacher, who admits to crying himself to sleep. But now we are going off topic, I wonder where toppackage gotthis idea from?

Not my primary source of auditory entertainment, as thou would discover if you joined the chat board! More questioning. Which unit was it that struck a tree. I seem to recall this one being scrapped at some point; was this 5173?

5173 was hit by a tree but the real problem was the bogies on 5172 were in poor nick and it was easier to use the set for spares...

Mr Metman, I know how you like to stand up for your beloved A-stock, but accusing the tree of such crimes is a bit unfair. The train hit the tree, not the other way around. Admittedly, the tree may have been trespassing, but please keep your facts in order ;D ;D

Excluding 5066 and 5234 which we know about, every other remaining A60/62 Unit was in passenger service at some point last week. I think that's a pretty impressive feat at this late stage from the rolling stock technicians at Neasden Depot.

I get the impression they care greatly for their trains, which is nice to see in this modern world!

Well, after all of what ive read about with A stock being too wide for most BR territory, there may be an A stock drag to Rotherham soonish. Im guessing if it does happen it will be 5066.

It may be that they went by road due to excessive charges from Network rail, but it is far more convenient to move them by rail.

The S Stock are dragged from Derby to Neasden, the A-Stock took the same route during refurbishment, and even further during initial delivery.
