From pictures I have seen of festering A Stock in Eastleigh, it looks like some auto-couplers have been nicked and are being readied to be sent back to London, correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the couplers just stayed with the train if it was going to get crushed?

Not sure why they would need them. They differ from C and D stock! Spares can be obtained from the last 8 units!
Unless the studs are worth more separately?

Very strange indeed, a lack in forward thinking at best.

Hmm, what about the Sandite 1962s?

The basic structure of an auto-coupler is the same for all Stock. Differences would be the wiring of the electrical connections and how the air ports are configured.

True but considering the A stock wedgelocks were cracking apart why would they want them. All I can think of is a pool of spares for the existing 3 units.

Agreed, but my point was, why send them out of London in the first place.

Not sure. Perhaps it was 'easier' to remove them in the yard than try and remove them in the siding at Northwood. The middle wedgelocks look to have been axed right through the knuckle!

When I saw 21146s photo of 5232 being taken away, its wedgelock seemed to be as it was when in service, leading me to think that it may be a crowbar job on adjoining cabs.

Some I have seen cut right through too. Guess it varies then.

Some of the wedge engines were recovered recently for re-use elsewhere (can't remember who requested them). In the early stages of disposal some complete couplers were recovered for A-stock use due to the small float of spares.
Souvenirs that have been recovered on behalf of the museum: non-OPO t/op's seats, destination blinds, green flags, temporary seat covers, and emergency ladders, plus some of the brake handles, master controller handles and number plates. There were also a very limited number of treadplates recovered in the end.
I've no idea how they'll be distributed/sold.

I remember the original refub seat covers being passed on the Creatively Recycled Empire to do weird and wonderful things with. Also from a photo I saw of the heavily graffitied '72 stocks at Eastleigh there was a whole container filled to the brim with A Stock seats - I'll see if I can get this.

Visited CF Booths in Rotherham this morning. Wow! It is so odd to see all those units you havn't seen for ages and never think you'd see again.
5020, 5016, 5116, 5180, 5070, 5134, 5168 and 6056 are all there still, but i'm not sure about whether all cars out of the units there were there, some have gone to Eastleigh etc. Sorry it's not in order, just wrote them down as they came to my head also there may have been some more but I may have forgotten.
Unfortunately no photographs as they were not allowed for some reason.
Any questions, dont hesitate to ask!

Yeah, off its chassis and just the bodyshell with interiors pretty much stripped down to its bare components

Gosh, 5070, didn't go that long after 5130, so perhaps 5130 was only destroyed a short while ago (and I'm sure it went to Booth's (please advise if wrong)).
EDIT: I was thinking of 5076, sorry for that moment of blithering idiocy.

Yeah, didn't see any other bits of 056/057 though, not a nice sight to have seen any of them in such a state

6057-5057 went to Eastleigh. 5056 must have been gone then by the time we got there then and 6056 remaining

My betting is that it'll be 5034/5063! Thanks by the way for informing us of the date of the forthcoming end.
