If a unit is being stripped a window swap may be possible. Depends which window it was? 5119: Larger pane 6119: Narrow pane on outside of door pocket

5024 was unscathed but 5118 is my worry At this late stage though, is there much point in uncoupling?

As far as I can see, there is precious little point uncoupling.

That is true, but there may be a few units due an exam before 5024.

It was never going to be 5116 for the reason(s) stated. Car 5112 has been the chosen one for a long time, but as of last Thursday, it is likely to be changed again. 5094 has been rumoured, so I guess we'll have to sit this one out for a bit longer to see which one is actually chosen.

Would be nice for it to be a unit still with its original numbers. Have to admit I was surprised to hear that 5116/7 was possibly 'the chosen one' : the last time I saw that unit, it was one of the poorest looking units of the lot, both inside and out...

Well yes LUL still has a good many double-enders to choose from. The only unit I cannot see being saved is 5090 due the poor condition of it's roof dome.

If it is 5094, then your wish will have been granted If I had the choice, I'd like it to be 5108/9 - there are fairly personal reasons for this, dating to the days when it would occasionally appear on the East London Line. It took me to an interview, I got the job, and it took me back to New Cross on my way home ;D

Do A stock run on certain services now or is completely random which service they operate? If they run on certain ones, does anyone know what services they run?

I think it is running. What are the units please? I don't know this for certain, but if T717 is running tomorrow then it's likely to be units 5122-5123 and 5218-5219, as this is the only Met train which hasn't been seen in service in the past few days and is therefore assumed to be the one, which is stopped at Neasden. As we well know though, plans can change rapidly and just because a unit is stopped, doesn't mean that it's the one being stripped out for scrapping. It may well be another pair of units going and I'm sure someone in the know will confirm tomorrow. Thinking about things in the run up to the Olympics and the end of the regular A Stock workings, there are currently 12 trains, which will most likely be 11 by tomorrow. There are 8 weeks until 25. July, when the last of this series of T717 is booked to run. TfL want to retain 4 A Stock trains for emergencies during the Olympics, so it would make sense if 1 train was scrapped per week up until 25. July. This would then leave them with the right number of trains as emergency spares. I must stress though that this is only my rough calculations, which may be completely wrong. I would expect though that T717 runs once a week, probably on a Wednesday for the next 8 weeks. I guess though that time will tell and it probably also depends on S8 deliveries between now and then. Best Wishes Green Lion.

July issue The Railway Magazine reports "Reading West & Bramley station platforms have been slightly altered to allow 50 year old Tube stock to be taken to Eastleigh Works by rail for scrapping." Does this mean the A stock will soon make a more dignified exit so to speak.

Does this mean the A stock will soon make a more dignified exit so to speak. This may well be the route which the remaining A Stock units take to their final resting place once the Olympics are over in September, as T717 is only booked to run until Wed 25. July. As you say, this would be a far more dignified end for them. I guess as always we'll just have to wait and see. Best Wishes Green Lion.

I took a trip to Northwood. Good thing it didn't rain much, as opposed to Pinner, which was absolutely drenched.

Also, see the C69/77 Stock scrapping thread for veritas' point on the C Stock which has a deeper solebar and eqipment which lies outside it, too. Could also be a reason why the platforms are being modified, to let the C Stock through also. Would be a wasted effort for a few A Stocks.

Lul want to keep four A stock as cover during the games, however lul fleet have other ideas... I would thought that it would been better to kept a handfull of A stocks running on the Met during the Olympics and concentrated on replacing as many C stocks, as possible, on the H&C.

Agreed, but it was done for the A Stock - far too late now - and what a waste. The different profile of the C Stock would require even more places to be 'modified'.
