Lul want to keep four A stock as cover during the games, however lul fleet have other ideas... I would thought that it would been better to kept a handfull of A stocks running on the Met during the Olympics and concentrated on replacing as many C stocks, as possible, on the H&C. Well! I did hear that LUL want 7 S7s for the H&C during the Olympics; that includes 3 S8s, which are currently formed as S7s. I think that the main problem may well be crew rostering and driver training etc. etc. At the current scrappage rate of A Stock on average 1 a week, there will be 4 trains left by the time we get to the end of July. However like everything else, the situation is fluid and changes regularly, so I guess we'll just have to watch this space. Best Wishes Green Lion.

Hopefully a farewell special will be arranged before 25th July or after 6th August because that's when I'll be in Athens, getting away from the busiest part of the Olympics.

Shame to see 5114 go. 5219 is half made up of 5208/5209!

I can appreciate things like driver training and doing all the necessary infrastructure works on the H&C for the S7s. I just think there would be a greater benefit for LUL, both in capacity and prestige, by keeping a small fleet of A stocks going and really pull out all the stops on rolling out as many S7s. As you say, we will have to watch this space.

6 and a half formations is all that would be needed for a half-hourly Uxbridge - Baker Street A Stock service at the peaks. 10 trains per hour are still needed at the peaks, the move to 8 per hour hasn't been popular...
That includes allowances to have a couple out for maintenance or cover units.

Just 7 in service today it seems. That's quite a lot really, considering they could run the whole weekend service with S stock now.

5219 is half made up of 5208/5209! Only car 5218 is from unit 5208. 6208 and 6209 were scrapped, and 5209 is now 5121.

This may get me banned from this thread but did you realize, as reported on another thread on here, that a Southbound train from Uxbridge is actually heading North-East.
This leads me to speculate; the last Southbound A60 from Uxbridge although moving North-East is actually going West!
Sorry folks. I'll get me coat.

I'll get me coat.I'm afraid that theory all falls apart because Uxbridge does not have southbound (or northbound) trains. The official line directions on the Uxbridge Branch are Eastbound and Westbound, the change (on the Met) from northbound/southbound occuring at Rayners Lane Sub-station gap.

T717 formed today of 5114+5219 arrived Northwood Engineers' Siding at 1304.
With Bob's report of an S8 being delivered tonight, I expect T717 to run again on Wednesday. Although there may be no connection, I noticed on A8 on 25Rd earlier which is the Road Neasden normally prepare A Stock on for the scrap runs.

5114+5219 came out of Neasden around 12:15 today, its view through pfm1 at Wembley being obscured by 5231+5034 in pfm2 !!

Watch out for car 5034 (ex-5008) which might make 51 years in service. Unit 5012 might just miss 51 years in service by just a few days

When they reached 50 years, I thought, they'll be gone in a year's time. Here we are today, though...

Excluding hybrid 5116, that now just leaves 5118 to hopefully make 50 on Saturday. Chances of it actually being in service this Saturday are of course much reduced due to the extent of the planned engineering work.

Redsetter, what you can do is enjoy the memories with affection as nothing can scrap them. The same way we think and smile at the thought of departed relatives and friends. Given my track record on this subject it may surprise you to know that while I have no emotional attachment whatsoever to anything mechanical, including A Stock, I have been touched by that shown to these old trains by members of this forum, including your good self. I can't say I'll ever comprehend your feelings but have come to respect your grief. ATB Rich

I can understand though, as A60s have been in the background of my life for most of my life; being taken shopping in the 70s to Watford in 4 car sets with smoking cars in the middle (not that I was smoking at age 5 or even my mum for that matter), coming back home after a seeing a film in the West End with sparks lighting up the darkened city, or even commuting to London on them (generally not much fun).
Quite frankly, I'll be gutted when they've all gone for good...

It was weird when I was on the Met last Friday, looking for some A stocks. Was sitting on one, listening to the Westinghouse whrring away, thinking that I won't be hearing that sound for much longer. Althougn Redsetter goes a bit OTT with his posts, I can see where he's coming from.
