Not sure. You could cover up the windows in the car ends. 6036 is the only car left which has the original interior. If this is kept a source of reference is available. Weren't some of the line maps in 6036 the originals from when the stock first started operating on the Met?

They were, though when I worked at Neasden I never found a way of climbing into the car when stabled on its own!

I hope this true, however this has only been reported on YouTube so far, therefore I am somewhat sceptical The person who posted that on YouTube is claiming that 5232 and the other 'earmarked' unit are the ones that have the Met crest in the M door, and that the crest was added for that reason. However DMs 5058, 5104 (& 5105) and 5118, and maybe a few others, also have this. And, if that was the reason for the crests, it would be silly to put them on a door, as it could be swapped and put on another unit. Also, 5232 is not an original formation, so would be a strange choice for a preserved unit. If one double ended unit is being preserved, then 5066 (last train to Shoreditch and last LU train on the ELL), 5090 (official last train to run the shuttle) or 5122 (last A60 built would make sense. If the rumour is true, and an 8-car train is being preserved (or a unit will be restored to original non-OPO condition - which is unlikely), then there are also a few significant single ended units - I don't think I need to give an example here. Anyway, a year or two ago there were several posts on here about A stock being preserved, including: - One DM going to the LTM, or a 4-car if there was room.
- Two groups of people being interested in preserving 4-car units.
As A stock is now being withdrawn you would think that there would be more info on this than just a rumour on YouTube. I'm starting to worry that everyone is thinking that someone else will preserve one, meaning that no one other than the LTM will. It would be a shame if only one DM is preserved.

Also like to see an A Stock saved other then the LTM vehicle(s). And the lack of any news on anything being preserved is worrying.
That then leads to the questions
Who would save one? Where would it go? What would it be used for? Who would look after it? Would LT be willing to sell or is it a done deal with the scrapman? How much would all this cost and who pay?

its doubtful if there would be many realistic takers' of these, certainly quainton road would be a place of interest it could be thought, they have taken coaches' in the past and have apparently from reading had these delivered by rail and road but otherwise what would probably happen and has in the past has been sourced has been let vandalised and had to be scrapped anyway. its a shame that this is the case but being what they are its not a realistic option only for transport museums or perhaps a railway operator who have the space the requirement and the funds to take care of them. i was looking on the web and found some pictures of the quainton road acquired stock i think was from 1981. www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/3672530522/www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/3671665771/many thanks to the original posters of these pictures for sharing.

many thanks to the original posters of these pictures for sharing. That would be our very own member, 21146. Anyway, I said I'd report on any A's I saw at Upminster - 5092/3 is currently in residence.

There are a couple of the old Jubilee carriages on the Great Eastern Street by Old Street mounted high up and used as offices. This may be incorrect but I spoke to someone once who said they paid a pound or a couple of pounds for the carriages but the cost of bringing them both over and placing them in their current location cost around £20000. This may be incorrect but if it is not then I am guessing you are looking at around that mark for the A stock.

I do recall reading somewhere that it was about £1500 a car. Don't remember where, though :/

The same idea passed my mind when the 59's were going! I'd salvaged a few bits from one DM car at Golders, to which the DDM told me I might as well take the whole damn car! True yes, but I don't think Tower Hamlets Council, nor my neighbours would have been pleased. ;D
I think you're looking at £1200 - £1500 for transportation, roughly £800 - £1000 to buy the car itself, and maybe a few hundred for groundworks, static track etc!

D'oh! What am I thinking! Sorry if you read the deleted post, I'm thinking bus length, not A stock length! I could still squeeze a car in the garden down the side with a few feet to spare. I've had a Dart (full length) on there with room for a second. Only problem is that I can store it, but Lincoln is an awfully long way for people to see/restore it. (Oh, and I've just won an appeal against City Council rulings, so I could be moving soon anyway.)

MRFS is the one with a house in the country; we could park one on the headshunt; I'm sure NR wouldn't mind too much, especially if we fitted it with ERTMS!

How much does it cost people like Cravens Heritage Trains to keep a train on LU? Ok, CHT have got some work to do on the 60TS, but you would think that another group might be interested if they really are selling them that cheap. Edit: Also, is there anyone on here who could attempt to find out if the LTM are planning to preserve a 4-car or just a DM?

We do have one member here who has (I think) a 59DM in his garden, he might be able to help with costs and so on. I suppose as a joint effort it's be possible, but it's going to be one hell of an outlay for a single individual... And finding the space, phew!

As long as a unit or two is preserved in working order I will still be able to ride on or help maintain it. It'll sound right too, really can't get along with AC motors!
