I've just passed 5141 and 5136 over at neasden beaches. ( Sandite road) both are being stripped of parts. So what is the extent of parts recovery given that the units need to be capable of movement under their own power after stripping? What can be taken off, leaving enough left on for the unit to function?

Judging by the numbers of clean seats I'd say many of them have been swapped!
Maybe the odd compressor, as 3 out of 4 isn't too much of an issue?

T717 ran 20 minutes early today which nearly caught me out. It followed the 1134 ex Baker Street and the 1223 ex Watford. 5141 was at the north end of the train.

Other parts are down to what the depot may be short of at the time...

Do they have total freedom to remove whatever parts they want? I wonder if the scrap yard might object to receiving an incomplete train as it may reduce their potential profit?

Often parts are removed and swapped with defective parts. Some elements such as the seats are no use to the scrap merchant!

So what is the rationale for removing all luggage racks, given that they are metal, and therefore of interest to the scrapman and that no other stock has them?

Passed Northwood this morning. Two cars have been taken away. The remaining two from 5136 have been redecorated - was this last night, or were they like this before they arrived?

6136 and 5136 would have been loaded yesterday and removed early this morning. 5137 and 6137 were moved earlier and will be loaded later.

I work 4M95 to Nuneaton on Monday morning and then I am back 'pass'. Is 717 running so I can 'pass' back via Northwood? Could someone please refresh my memory as to the timings for 717 duty as I am too tired to plough through another page! Thanks.

5175 is the other unit, but issues may force late running.

Can you expand on the possible issues?

5175 is the other unit, but issues may force late running. Thanks for the advice. It was only 10min or so late and followed T447 down rather than T446. 5086 was at the north end.

I was on 447 and watched 717 making its final reverse at Watford. A sad sight; I am beginning to understand why the old stalwarts on this board get so sentimental.

Although they are on their last legs, it is sad to see them go. Will miss the sound of the Westinghouse compressors whirring away - one of my favourite sounds in transport, along with AEC engines on Routemasters and RT's.

5175 has been haunting me since it was involved in an incident at Chalfont in June - it seems to follow me around.
In a way I'm pleased to see it go - it won't be haunting me anymore but it's sad to see it go.

5064/65 has suffered a burn out, and is thus doomed. Parts were being stripped out today.

Oh no! Another double ender! Any news on the other victim? I passed Neasden earlier on a southbound fast A-stock and when looking into the depot, I noticed that there was a train formed of 8 carriages of A stock parked on an outside road at the furthest location away from the mainline, beyond the depot. This road was at a higher level than the depot, was wondering whether this is where A stock are stored out of the way whilst they await their final journey... One of the unit's was double ended, so could be 5064/5, the other unit was single ended. Only two cars remaining at Northwood, 5086 and 6086. Looked like they were going to be loaded later this afternoon.
