They tested it and they fitted! Why would the trailers not fit?

Well they used to go through Aldgate East on their way to the East London line, so I'm not sure where you've got this idea from either.
There may have been some sort of restriction on the North curve at Aldgate whereby they were only allowed through with no trains in the opposite direction, though I think there's some debate about how true that is - in any case though, all A stock movements to and from Upminster now occur only during engineering hours, so it's all academic these days.

Hi,
A brainwave hit me yesterday: the idea is why can't the TfL donate the A Stock to house the homeless in developing countries?
Thanks.

Further to my posting of Friday, A60 Unit 5134/35 is also now back in passenger service after an absence of approx two months.

Will 5066 re-enter service, or will it stay as the RAT? There may have been some sort of restriction on the North curve at Aldgate whereby they were only allowed through with no trains in the opposite direction, though I think there's some debate about how true that is I thought the restriction was on St. Mary's curve.(I read somewhere that the track had to be moved closer to the centre of the tunnel, and the signalling modified so no trains could pass there, not just A stock). I've never heard anything about restrictions at Aldgate.

As of last week, the RAT hadn't been reformed.

How frequently will they be withdrawn?

How frequently will they be withdrawn? A required really, but given how the currret 5 ( one has been stopped since dec) S stock are performing right now the general thinking is to hold fire with the next round of scrapping. The biggest problem, is that Neasden depot has lost so much stabbing space, and the power upgrade is so late.

Has any Met unit taken its place at Upminster do we know? That would have been 5182/3 as they are in Upminster as I type - that said, 5183 had the control key in..... I wonder if that suggests the heating etc was being kept on for a move tonight..... I shall report around this time tomorrow (ie, after I stable in Upminster) should I spot a different A stock in there....

Thank you very much Colin. I would be very grateful if you could advise on any future A stock arrivals at Upminster Depot.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

That is not correct I'm afraid. The disposal plan has not been changed as a result of the two major 'S' Stock failures, or the teething problems we are experiencing. The disposal plan is in place and as more new trains are delivered the old ones will be scrapped in accordance with it.

If the next one goes in April, it won't be too bad. I guess, if S stock can start running to Aldgate by the end of March then they can operate any service and they can be sent down on mass. Any news on which units will be going next or could that be a last minute thing ie 5006.

Thank you very much Colin. I would be very grateful if you could advise on any future A stock arrivals at Upminster Depot. I'll do my best, though annual leave and rest days may get in the way - perhaps some of my Upminster colleagues will see this and help with any sightings. Anyway, we now have double ender 5092/3. At moment in time Neasden has no stopped units for wheel turning, and the prevoius backlog has almost gone. That'll be twice in three posts that you've been wrong then, seeing as there is an A stock in Upminster depot right now.

Has anyone got a picture of an A stock and D stock side-by-side yet? Don't think I've ever seen the two in the same shot. As said elsewhere it would be great if they could park one next to a C stock unti there and take a snap, for posterity.

Whilst it is indeed quite possible to get an image the three side by side in Upminster depot, being there in daylight is another matter (especially at this time of year).
Watch this space though (not literally of course) - I'm sure it'll happen one day.....

It has happened! See Underground News January 2011 - photo page 5, lower (in B&W). A, C and D in one photo in daylight.

I hope this clarifies matters.
