Presumably Bombardier must have stopped production by now as, surely, there would be nowhere to store the units if they were being made at the rate they were when H&C and Met introductions were running at full steam. Bombardier haven't stopped production yet, still running at full rate on a recent LURS visit. Seen around the works in various stages of completion were:21485/86, 21491/92, 21503/04, 21517/18 + many others not visible. Old Dalby test facility has recently been expanded to store 35 trains on site. With 21443/44 delivered to London that's 21 trains up to 21485/86 presumed stored. Work on the Richmond and Upminster lines are continuing, it is hoped to commence service to both with the new timetable or very shortly afterwards. "End of 2016" would be quite manageable with 75 D Stock to replace in 104 weeks (Jan 2015-Dec 2016)

I really can't see why it matters so much, or why they bother giving any dates at all. It's not as if the existing trains are inconveniencing anybody (which is, after all what passengers pay for - a proper service) and if the S Stock is a little late into service it means it'll last a little longer down the line so no money has been wasted. The S will turn up in the fullness of time when they're good and ready.

As someone in a wheelchair the D stock's step up/down is an inconvenience to me.

It's one of those instances where it would have been better if they had said nothing rather that continually making statements about introduction dates that were not met. As you say, there's nothing wrong with the D stock from the POV of most passengers. It's just that it makes tfl look incompetent when they keep missing dates. And they've missed a LOT of dates on the S Stock project. Sent from my computer using keyboard

At my local station is a poster saying the S stock will replace the old trains by the end of 2016 ( this poster is at stations East of Barking) In the mean time the D stock is being left to rot as regards the passengers can see in the tatty seating, dirt inside and out. Good - I would be horrified if TfL were spending any more than the bare minimum required to keep the trains running given they are all being scrapped in the next 2 years.

Does 21099-21100 not have to go back for modification? Trains have been going in numerical order with this one missed.

How many S8s are due to go back for modifications, the fleet must be nearing completion now?

21100-21099 was the last to go back and is currently there with 21116-21115. (That particular) job will then be done!

You know, I still can't tell the difference between S7 and S8 apart from a few minor interior changes
What is the differences? I've looked at wiki but really not helpful in this case

Apart from an extra car S8s have a few transverse seats. All seats on an S7 face inwards.

The best way to tell them apart once they're in service proper, and there aren't and S7+1s, will be to look at what it says on the front! If it says Metropolitan line, all stations, semi-fast, or fast, it'll be an S8, anything else, S7. You can also look at the units numbers, anything that starts 2X0XX or 2X1XX is an S8, if it is 2X3XX, 2X4XX, or 2X5XX.

Any indication when the S7+1 trains will become S7 and go to their intended lines?

But the seating is useful if the entire train is not visible - and also differentiates between an S8 and an S7+1.

Been a few weeks since the last post. Have the signaling problems at Upminster over the past two weeks after the weekend work caused any delay for the expected completion of Barking-Upminster services?

Been a few weeks since the last post. Have the signaling problems at Upminster over the past two weeks after the weekend work caused any delay for the expected completion of Barking-Upminster services? First test run in Traffic Hours was completed on Wednesday with others scheduled next week. Hopefully from 14 December S7s will be running driver training trips (possibly empty), with service introduction from mid-January.

What happened to the Ealing Broadway S Stock trains? I haven't seen them for quite a while at Stepney Green.

I have seen at least one S stock at Acton town carrying passengers heading towards Ealing Broadway this week.

Yesterday evening, Train 121 was 21370. However, when I boarded it at West Ham at roughly 1705, it was displaying Not in Service, and that was still the case by the time I got off at Tower Hill. Several confused passengers at Aldgate East when the driver announced it was a District Line to Ealing Broadway.
