They can't all have de-icing equipment because the cost/benefit isn't there. There certainly is a greater % with the S stock than there is with the A stock. This is the benefit of planning a new fleet with de-icing gear rather than retro fitting it!

The drawback being you don't end up with ancient de-icing locos

Good points! Well only another 30 years till it beats the sleet locos, bet they could do it aswell given the will...
On the S stock front, is most of the work wrt their introduction about repositioning things like OPO mirrors and other pre-resignalling related items to accomodate the old guard as well as the new?
Also related to this question, once the lines are fully resignalled, and conventional equipment removed, will it become easier, in theory, to accomodate S8s on the District if deemed worthwhile?

Also related to this question, once the lines are fully resignalled, and conventional equipment removed, will it become easier, in theory, to accomodate S8s on the District if deemed worthwhile? S stock has an in-cab OPO CCTV system. The enabling works include new platform cameras, station equipment and transmission equipment to get the signal to the train. Where 'legacy' OPO on the stations is being moved or renewed this is usually to get it out of the way of the S stock passenger doorways or for S stock signal sighting etc. S stock's CSDE is also being installed along with S stock stop markers. In some places platform extensions or end barrier repositioning. Also an extensive programme of signalling immunisation and related works. The legacy OPO will be removed later and might increase space at platforms. Not aware of any plan to go to 8 car other than on the Metropolitan line though.

I thought the Class 20s departed on a Thursday? By all accounts they are still at Neasden today, and we're there last night too.

I've probably missed it deep in this thread, but will both pre-production trains go the same way as the two for the 2009TS? If so, is there still any chance of catching either of them in public service at the moment?

I reported to the driver some scratched windows on 21008 earlier but he ignored me, so I'm reporting it here in hope that someone is more interested in it than the miserable sod driving the 20:53 arrival into Chesham.

Must say, I love the moquette on the seats!
Will the S7s have fully longitudinal seating or keep the same arrangement as the S8s? I think it works well and would like to see it on the District Line too, if not the H&C/Circle.

All S7 will have longitudinal seating. Only the S8 for the Met will have a few transverse seats.

Did you get the train number? They can trace the driver from that. Isn't tracing the train in question the more important issue here? Or is it as you make out finding the driver to have them "punished". The driver probably had a long shift, might not have spoken to anybody for up to three hours so maybe just had their brain switched off! Or maybe the driver took note and actually reported the problem; a problem that can be found on most windows of most trains on the network! Give the train operators some slack and stop knocking them for the smallest thing!

It's never too difficult to express a little courtesy and concern.
These trains are public assets paid for by taxpayers and hence belong to *all* of us - reports of damage to them should be taken seriously.

Reporting the train number so that the driver or the vandalism can be reported? Give the train operator some slack, I would hope this forum isn't a place to go around calling them miserable! At the end of the day we don't know with what attitude the issue was reported to the driver. Maybe the driver just got shouted at by a customer for no reason, maybe they helped somebody earlier and got no thanks or just told a rude word! There are too many factors to behave as judge, jury and executionor and insult this member of Underground staff on a public forum! Maybe they just have a quiet voice and didn't get heard...

I'd concur. Report the train number to the correct authorities..........and then post you've done so. The scratches can be dealt with by the maintenance staff. As far as attempting to drop a member of LUL staff in it over something so trivial as apparently ignoring you is concerned, I find that pointless on an internet forum. If you have a serious complaint worth pursuing about his/her behaviour which by the sounds of things isn't that serious really and would be difficult to prove, once again, report it to the correct authorities, not a bunch of train enthusiasts like us with no jurisdiction whatsoever.

At the end of the day (no pun intended!), there is no excuse for rudeness or even sounding disinterested, no matter how long the shift. People in far less well paid jobs find it in them to be polite, so I would expect at least an interested response from the driver, and a "thank you for letting me know", even if he couldn't care less and just wanted to go home.
This is one of the problems with society these days - people find excuses for rudeness, when in most cases there is no excuse.

Having a look back through the logs, it appears the scratched window was indeed reported by the train operator, and the relevant treatment was taken once the train got back to depot that evening.
As for the driver, who knows. We only have bengley's personal opinion and view on the driver's response. Perhaps (and this is my view only based on previous communication on the forum) Mr Bengley is a regular complainer, and maybe known to the driver, which may be the reason for the less than enthusiastic response. I could have that very wrong indeed of course, but then so could Mr Bengley...
Maybe we should consider this particular matter closed?

Yes, I think we should consider the matter closed. If the train operator was having a bad day and it showed, at least they did their job and reported it. The scratched window is the least of the problems though.....
