I sat on an S stock from Baker to Chesham the other day and for the first time on the underground my rear started to hurt. They're better than the 378 seats at least!... although the problem is that the fabric's colours are already fading

You haven't sat on 95ts flip-downs then.. they hurt after about 1 station they're that bad! Or the '09TS wheelchair area tip-up seats.. I went on the S Stock between Moor Park and Baker Street last week and had no problems. I was sitting on a transverse seat.

I haven't seen 21039/40 or the 20s at Neasden but there is an S Stock with White Vinyls on the Windows which I presume is 21045/46(?)

I think that is either PP1 or PP2 which are both S7s?

I think that is either PP1 or PP2 which are both S7s? PP1 was noted to be the S7 in April. There aren't any recorded notes about PP2, perhaps one of our more learned friends knows what happened to that.

PP1 (21001-21002) currently 7-car.
PP2 (21100-21099) has gone back as an 8-car, ex-Ruislip by road on 25/26 June.

Can we presume that PP2 will return as an S7 and compliment PP1 in the testing?

What happens to the extra two cars whilst they are removed from the formation, and what will happen to them after testing is complete?

Saw an S stock on the fast lines at Pinner on Wednesday afternoon. Don't know if it was in passenger service.

Is 21045/46 a production S7?
Any ideas on when this will enter service, then?

The 'removed' cars (23001 and 23045) are both stored at Old Dalby.

I'm lost somewhere Will send an e-mail to prjb, and ask if he can clarify. If he can't answer the question then nobody can!

29/07/11 Off-Peak 441 19/20 443 13/14 444 9/10 451 A (5000) Also: 21005 - 4?? (about 10 - 11am) 21007 - 4?? (am) - At Northwood Hills NB after both 461 and 462 should be in Neasden / 461 (pm) 21021 - 465 (pm) I don't know, but it seems that as there were delays due to a signal failure at Farringdon (again), the S8 running 443 might have run into the depot after the morning peak, possibly after being diverted to somewhere, with A stock units 5136 + 5099 on 442 being reformed as 443 and running to Watford, where they were swapped with 21013. If 451 was 5000 + 5233 all day, then that doesn't explain why both of 21005 and 21007 were out at that time. Or it could be that one of them was on 451 at one point.

Can we presume that PP2 will return as an S7 and compliment PP1 in the testing? No, PP2 has returned to Derby for a complete refit to bring it to passenger service standards. If we hang on to both the PP trains for completion of testing before returning them to Derby for refit we will delay the completion of the S8 roll out. As you are all aware PP1 and PP2 are trains 57 and 58 of the Met fleet, it takes around 3 months to get them back to passenger service standard so we need them back asap. We are supplementing the S7 testing with production S8's with an M2 car removed. This will minimise the delay in getting them back to passenger service standards (Bombardier simply give them a 'spruce' and put the missing car back in!) and not delay completion of the Met roll out.

Does an S8-1 need any software modifications (to tell it there is one less car) or is the software 'universal'? TIA Simon

Just a quick note to say I have updated the S-stock workings for the Met from Monday 1st August. Read the small print (well it's normal-sized print actually) as it will answer a regular question, and will also prevent some other questions as the next couple of weeks go by.

Train 424 is something I've been waiting for - an S Stock operating into the City at around 2 ish.

410 was an A stock today, although all of the other scheduled off peak workings were S stock.
