I remember from my early youth, that there was a unit 1963 plates, which by natural assumption was 5231... But my memory is sketchy as I was only about 5 then, so don't take this as gospel.
I saw 5231 today, it has the later type of 1962 tread plates.
Yesterday I came across DM5121 and Trailer Car 6121 heading southbound on the A41 between Hemel Hempstead and the M25 at around 4.30pm.
This seems an odd direction for these to be heading in, bearing in mind they've joined the M25 from Northwood at Junction 18 earlier in the day to either head west to Eastleigh, or up the M1 to Booths in Rotherham.
I assume this little sight-seeing diversion for these soon-to-be-doomed train carriages is something to do with the earlier thread on the Alleleys Lorries swapping tractor units / trailers on the A41 in a nearby lay-by for reasons not yet clear.......?
Anyhow, I once again happened to have my camera to hand - pics aren't great as I was travelling, but at least the sun was shining:-
As we near the sad & inevitable end of A Stock in service, I've been going through my video footage from earlier this year.
Here's one for A Stock Lovers - DM5000 on its penultimate day in service - Weds 4th April, having arrived at Watford on an off-peak afternoon service before returning to Aldgate.
