This will sound oddly worded but I can't think of a better way of saying it - does Amersham include Chesham? Or will the branch be tackled later?

Nothing odd about it, as they are 2 separate areas (although they often do come as a package.)
As far as I know it will be Amersham first, and Chesham to follow later.

London Reconnections says the four are being stabled in Rickmansworth sidings. Are they there now, or to be stabled there? The information provided to us on the District shows plans for the first (S8) train to be outstabled will occur when service train 7 is delivered, a second train will be outstabled when train 8 is delivered. Plans of course change and Service train 7 is a little while off yet anyway, so really a wait and see jobbie. At present the plans do not include outstabling at Rickmansworth during these early days.

There seem to be two S8 stopping marks at the east end of Harrow-on-the hill platform 5, one on the platform itself and another under the recently repositioned signal. What's going on there?

Platforms 5 and 6 are capable of reversing towards Uxbridge. Platform 5 can also reverse into the siding, and there is a shunt signal for this.

Both of the marks to which I am referring are at the same end of the platform - the eastern end. One is on the end of the platform island itself and the other beyond the end of the island.

Interesting. Because we won't always know that a train is to be reversed before it stops at Harrow. Hopefully it will be communicated to us that in order to reverse a train at short notice the train will need to pull forward to that other mark before the driver changes ends. I can see a few delays there...

With all due respect, if it doesn't have a "customer facing" label telling you what to do with it, then you have little need to know what it's for

No full S stock service until March 2011? ;D

No full S stock service until March 2011? ;D That was a few weeks (and thread pages) ago. And when you consider that tomorrow is 1st November, that puts the full service just a mere 4-5 months away. We've already operated 2 out of every 8 Watford services for large chunks of the day already.

I can see a few delays there... A problem that is even more acute when a C stock driver isn't told of a curtailment in advance, where they need to stop SHORT! ;D Assisted Despatch then required to proceed. Seems to happen a fair bit with Plaistow / Barking H&C trains being reversed at Whitechapel!

Interesting. For a while now we have had to "seek permission" to reverse our trains at Whitechapel, and generally tell both the controller and Whitechapel signaller the train number and time expected. So it's not like they don't know it's coming ;D

As per my other post, Train 401 this morning produced as S-Stock unit 21008 etc. First time Ive seen one in service and was very impressed with it to. Only issue is I now want all of my journeys to work to be that comfortable!

Interstingly, the centre of the aforementioned SR Mark (IE, the point at which i'd expect the drivers to lign up with as accurately as possible) on the SB Local at HOTH appears to be beyond the Signal - does that mean to do a reversing move in P5 The Harrow signaller will need to clear the road for the reversing train? Seems to constrain capacity a bit IMO...

I'm not entirely sure, but I think the drivers are meant to line up the train against the board with a certain reference point inside the cab - like the edge of the windscreen or similar - not the side cab window. Like I said though, I am probably not right.

Is anyone making a photographic record of all the changes taking place in terms of signs, stopping places etc? It would be interesting to know what's been done and (if anyone knows) why?

What was up with the announcements/info boards on this mornings train? Also in cold temperatures like today will the system automatically turn the cold air into hot air, or is this driver controlled. The train seemed quite chilly today and with the doors opening at every station any heat we did have disappeared in an instant.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

We are having a few issues with annoucements/displays and have a couple of software upgrades due shortly to try and improve this, so apologies for that. The temperature is controlled automatically and the driver has no control over it. Funny you mention this because I am planning to go out on a run next week and sit in the saloon in order to assess how the system is coping with this expected cold snap.

Just as well you've got other things to do on that run . Otherwise you need only ask test staff from the last few night tests. Quite pleasant when I've been on the passenger service standard trains in the cold. Not too hot or cold.

You've got to put the furnace-like qualities of the As to the back of your mind, and judge the S8s objectively... 431 was very toasty this evening, but probably a lot warmer than 'standard' LU Heating requirments.

In the cold weather though it is nice to get onto a warm train instead of an ambient one. Surely the colder a person is the longer they will take to warm up?

To me, a train in winter should be less than 'room' temperature, but more than ambient. Thus when you're all togged up and you board, you might take your hat and scarf off, but keep your coat on and still feel "comfortable".
