Problem with the lack of climate control is, you tend to wear enough clothes to provide enough warmth while you're on the move - "comfortable" as if you wear any more, you'll be sweating like a horse.
However, when you stay still in an icy environment (like an unheated carriage), your body temperature will decrease due to the lack of movement. There needs to be just enough heating to counter that, but no more.

I presume the one i saw tonight is the very last one - Wimbledon bound at 173-ish at Bfrs ? Not quite - there are still 4 non refurbs available for service, with the last one expected to operate around mid february EDIT: well, I say 4 but they're actually formed in such a way that there's realistically only 3 available for service. see this thread for further info

Yeah, but we are dealing with a public that is rather 'immune' to announcements anyway. The fault for that lies with the delightful manager somewhere who decides that we need to be subjected to announcements for anything and everything - so when the tone plays you just tend to ignore it ("Oh, he's going to start batting on about how it's such a good service and how you should touch in and touch out"). When something actually of use is announced, therefore, people don't take notice.

Indeed. Theres a fine line between keeping pax informed, and making them disinterested in the announcements full stop. Maybe someone could start a poll on here asking whether people are in favour of PDO, and whether they are staff or not?

Got a bit off topic here have we not??? And no, I see no benefit of a poll on the topic. From a staff point of view I want total control over the train doors - full stop. I will open, I will close - if I want to do a selective close/reopen then I will decide. IMHO PDO will never be re-introduced. It plays havoc with headways and those stocks (I'm thinking particularly of the 92TS) which had Pass close as well used to be the playthings of those thinking it'd be funny to shut their mates in the doors etc.......... It's a different matter on suburban rail lines where the timetabled standing time is often in minutes - as you (should ) know - on LU we work in seconds at platforms.

When I was on the Jubilee one very cold snowing morning, second train out of Stanmore.. I decided under the advice of Alstom fitter to leave doors in passenger for first 3 or 4 stations, give the snow a chance to blow off is it was proving very hard to get a pilot light because of doors sticking open.. however a duty reliability manager told me off at Stanmore and said to open all doors at all stations as normal ... at Canons Park there was a 15 minute delay caused by my train and doors refusing to close.. by Wembley Park my train was out of service and running about 40 late... could have easily been avoided by using passenger open (or reduced at least)!

REMINDER:................................
This thread is supposed to be about the running of the last non-refurb.
If anyone wants to continue this discussion about PDO could they start a new thread.

So you want us to stick to the point Dave, fine fine.
Can someone out there please tell us when the last one is to run, it might clash with my other commitments you see.
Also if the train formation is right isnt it sad that it has to be one of those damm double-cab units leading with those blinker things on each side of the front for the inter car barriers
Does anyone else think they make the D and even the C stock look more awful now?

With regard to the last run, details will appear as soon as they are confirmed - you can be sure of that As I understand the situation at the moment, the last run is expected to occur on a weekday roughly in the middle of February (I've been told the date, but like I say, it's not confirmed - similarly I've been told of the reasons why no definitive final decision has been made, but that's a matter Metronet & LUL [ie, contractual]). Once things have been ironed out, and the drivers are informed (ie, DD & Aspect) - well as Dave said originally, certain people within LUL are very keen to make members of this forum aware. That very fact is testament to the respect this forum has gained in LUL circles and for that you lot should be very proud that the effort is being made for you. Your patience will be rewarded EDIT: ooh, I've just realised I'll be on annual leave when the last day comes around - I might have to pop into work.........

I had a non refurb yesterday, my first for months, and probably my last. All that walking to the offside tired me out They are looking very bare now with about half of the adverts being removed. I also noted how musty and sweaty these trains smell when compared to refurbs.

No getting out of my seat at every other station and no horrible 1970s orange and brown to look at

I admit I think the performance of the non-refurbs is better.. especially braking, and motoring (I had a refurb train yesterday where the coasting control flag was broken so it wouldn't go more than 30!! ) however I would still rather have a refurb for not having to get up or make announcements

Do you know yet how much notice of the final running date at time you'll be able to give us?
I'm asking because if it's afternoon or evening on Tuesday the 12th then I'll likely have to do some serious reorganising of plans, which may or nor be possible (I hope it is, and knowing when I'll know by might just help).

I don't want to spread unfounded rumours but I've heard indirectly from Les Calverley and Bob Thoroughgood that the last un-refurb will maybe run at least a week later than this.

I am putting pressure on the Powers that Be for permission to publish the date as soon as possible.
Chris - I can say it is not the 12th however.

Right - now I'll whisper very quietly whilst no-one is listening........ The intended date is now Friday 15th Feb. The train will work as T106 ex Upminster depot at 16:08 and ultimately stabling in Ealing Common depot at 00:33. The intention is that it will then depart to Derby by road on the 18th Feb. Theoretically (and this is why it cannot be absolutely guaranteed that this will definitely be it's last working) the train could be called for service over the weekend; however there will be no service between Acton Town and West Ken that weekend and almost all trains will de in Ealing Common depot so this is a pretty low possibility. But you didn't hear this from me

But theoretically ChrisM, you could wave it goodbye as it passes though Earls Court before heading off to Paddington to catch your train...

if it's leaving Upminster depot at 4.08, what is the realistic time that it'll leave Upminster Station?
could there be a sort of 'gen' list like there was for the 1938 tour detailing the times it arrives at stations?
