I can't wait!
By the way, will the train just be running through all the stations or will the train stop at each station like a normal Jubilee Line service but without the doors and platform doors opening?

WIll there be a meet-up in a bar as was mentioned earlier? i'm presuming there will be, but I don't actually know. There are enough of us going to be in the same place that detailed planning can be left to later.

So what time do y'all plan to arrive to Stratford for 1st trip? For myself I'm thinking about 10:45? I'm planning on seeing if the 09.22 Richmond - Stratford sticks to the 378 diagram (from Willesden Junction) and if so I'll be arriving at about 10.30

the 1st trip has just finished, and although I only spotted Ducatisti and Chris W it was a good trip. Particularly the 20 minutes at Charing Cross.
I'm currently en route to try and photograph the second trip at Canning Town.

I haven't read the whole thread, but was it meant to be going off to Ealing Common depot via Ruislip originally? We didn't until just now when "page 2" of the special timetable was faxed to us ;D ;D
As I write, a further alteration means it is on it's way to Neasden where it will cross to "my domain" and we will then be reversing it from Rayners Lane.

I'm currently en route to try and catch it at North Ealing. Do you have a revised timing there?

Glad I didn't try and get it at Rayners as well It would have been earlier had it not been for a Picc hanging around in Rayners platform. Thankful for small (very small) mercies I suppose ;D

Ugh. Had the timetable and got to Harrow-on-the-Hill bang on time. Thought I'd missed it and then the station went into evac about 10 minutes after I'd arrived, only to then turn out to be a false alarm. I was about to give up waiting when it turned up – 15L by my watch – stopping mid-platform to let off some manager bloke. After it'd gone through, I jumped on the next UXB out of 4 to Rayners to wait for 10-15 minutes (at a distance of the other folk who didn't seem that friendly – especially some really hyperactive bloke who was running about all over the place with a camcorder filming a plane whilst waiting for that train). Tom later communicated with me to say that the train had done a fast one and it was now at Alperton, leaving me to inform the masses (well – I could've just left them there waiting, but everybody on the platform was already tutting about it, so I did the decent thing).

I was on trip 2 very noisy on both sections great journey and I must say those little ventilation windows on the 38's really are quite good! some very baffeled punters to, what surprised me is the amount of everyday commuters who took out their camera phones! even a few station staff did oh and thanks to everyone who organized this to

I've uploaded 162 images taken today on both trips 1 & 2, which can be found hereThese images start with some photos of Overground services at Stratford and then take the tour from platform 13, through to West Hampstead, Charing Cross, West Hampstead (again) and towards Stratford (unfortunately my battery gave up the ghost at North Greenwich) Thank you to all who gave their time in any way today to allow this special to run (LU staff, museum volunteers etc.). The look on passenger faces of bewilderment as the little 4-car red train travelled along the Jubilee was worth the £35 cost in itself. There were also a hardcore of station staff who were on the platforms to see the special through, many with cameras. Sadly there are still too many so-called enthusiasts (I prefer to call them trainspotters in a derogatory way) who seem to think that using flash is acceptable, which brings shame on us all...!!! At the end of the day every imbecile who chooses to blind a driver makes it increasingly likely that such rare tours will become a thing of the past and increases the likelihood that photography will be banned once and for all on LU, punishing the majority for the irresponsible actions of the few. I'm sorry to be so negative on what has been a great occasion... but please STOP IT!!!!

I had a great day today, and was on Trip 2. I saw in of Chris's photos, onboard the train, I'm in the background being photographed by the press! I also managed to get a cab ride from Canning Town to Stratford, as I was lucky to be asked by an LU official! I was wearing the tube map shirt... Damn you Max. I was going to wear my tube map t-shirt as well!

The look on passenger faces of bewilderment as the little 4-car red train travelled along the Jubilee was worth the £35 cost in itself. There were also a hardcore of station staff who were on the platforms to see the special through, many with cameras. I always enjoy the looks when people realise it is not an ordinary train, but still try and board, and get annoyed when they cannot do so, but they can see the train is full of passengers lol. I think the run (I was on trip 1) was also the run I've seen the most staff with cameras on. Finally, credit to whoever thought up the idea of running the train midweek. Given the tough economic times, it was always going to be a gamble, and I think many of the passengers have the evidence to say that the gamble certainly paid off. Sadly there are still too many so-called enthusiasts (I prefer to call them trainspotters in a derogatory way) who seem to think that using flash is acceptable, which brings shame on us all...!!! I'm sorry to be so negative on what has been a great occasion... but please STOP IT!!!! I can understand your point entirely Chris. I did wonder at times whilst we were at Charring Cross if the amount of flashes going off at once could set the fire alarms off, but thankfully this turned out not to be the case! I wonder how much it would add to the mailing bill for these events if, included with your tickets, there was to be a list of do's and don'ts with photography, mainly of course to stop using flash

Chris W. In your third-to-last picture, I am the hairless one in the light blue stripey shirt on the far right! Even though I could only manage the second trip I have to say what a fantastic experience it was. The first thing that struck me as I boarded the train at West Hamstead was that smell! Instant atmosphere! If only the LT museum could bottle it..... One thing tha struck me was how smooth the ride was. Whether it is due to the good track or the fantastic condition of the set I can't be sure but I do know that they aren't that good on the Isle Of Wight! Finally, a huge 'thank you' to everyone involved in making today possible. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Was on first trip. Whilst the 'Charing Cross experience' wasn't exactly new to me, I did really enjoy the trip. It all went like clockwork more or less (except departing from p13 at SFD instead of 14 as booked), so well done to all those involved.

The reason the 1st trip left from Stratford platform 13, was because it was easy to control entry to the platform.
Also it was noted that Peter Hendy was on the trip from Stratford.

Finally, credit to whoever thought up the idea of running the train midweek. Given the tough economic times, it was always going to be a gamble, and I think many of the passengers have the evidence to say that the gamble certainly paid off. According to one of the stewards, mid-week was the only time that they would be able to run the train due to all the engineering works before the new Jubilee line signalling is commissioned. The arrangements were all pretty last minute compared to the normal planning needed. She also mentioned that there are several other 'last chance' trips in the pipeline and some exciting plans for the 150th anniversary of the first underground line (in 2013, as 1863 was when the first bit of the Met opened). I certainly enjoyed today's trip and give my thanks to everyone involved in a good trip. I particularly loved seeing the post 2000 adverts at Charing Cross (at least one was for an event in May 2009), not bad for a bit of line closed to passengers for nearly ten years.

Although nothing to do with the '38 tour it answers a question I've been pondering since my late teens, as I half-remember this view when the station was open. Looking at the image and the view, I have to ask, late as it is in the evening, were you a very very small teenager, or did you spend your time laying down near platform edges. The former makes me feel very sorry for you if you were that small - I am surprised you ventured near the tube. The latter would probably be more fitting for some of us as teenagers, though maybe not that close to the edge ;D I'll get my coat...

Au contraire; the print I have is very similar to this one , but I have lost it somewhere in my peregrinations around the country.

It certainly was quite warm yesterday, but the breeze on the run down from Finchley Road towards Baker Street was unbelievable. In answer to those who were waiting for the train to reverse in Ruislip Sidings on the return trip, I believe the reverse in the westbound platform at Rayners Lane was called by the gent mentioned getting off at Harrow On The Hill by 3.1 above. The crew had been up early that morning after the late return home from the positioning move to SMD the night before so it was appreciated. Wouldn't it be nice to see an evening run of the 38TS when returning from the Upminster Depot Open Weekend to Ealing Common or Ealing Broadway full of passengers?
