Seems like one of the 378's last night had a bit of bother with some ballast whilst on it's test run.. Sounds like only minor damage.. opps...

Found out at a meeting today that the first train into passenger service will be on Monday 15 June 2009. Unit 005 has completed its 2,000 fault free miles testiing. Driver and (although some on here might not agree) Conductor training will start very shortly.

Pah !! You beat me to it ;-) Had a look around 005 this morning. Tech's were tweeking with odd's and ends that needed replacing due to general scratches etc. Looks very nice inside the passenger area, not as wide open as I thought..Still looks nice though.

Why do we need photos, if they are like the 313s, 416s and the 501s before them, They will be around for around for 30 years, so no need to hastly take pics, just yet anyway.

I am glad that you think i am superfluous.... Thanks. Keith, I'm certain you do a fine job, and I apologise if my wording offended you. I did say *IF*, but never mind. I agree guards have some important roles, but I'm not convinced that the current economic climate (and political climate at City Hall) is going to keep you in a job for very long. Sorry.

Dear Paul, Please note that you did not offend me, and i am sorry if that was the impression you got. With regard the other subject (DOO), what you have said is nothing new to me, ive been hearing it since i became a Guard in 1987. DOO has already rendered me surplus before, if LOROL or City Hall, or Boris, or the current economic climate means that i no longer have a job to do that is also no problem, providing that they make me redundant and not surplus and that i keep my travel passes and that i get £2,000 for every year i have worked in the industry (29 years and counting)as well as my pension being protected i would go tomorrow. Knowing that i could get a job in Tescos stacking shelves, pay maybe sh1te, the condtions maybe sh1te, the pension maybe sh1te, but at least i will have job.

In todays Elf and safety climate, I cannot see the NLL, WLL or GOBLIN become DOO

Don't think it will be a couple of years more like 12 to 18 months tops.. As soon as the ELL get their fleet then the extra coach will be added to the 3 car fleet.. Can't seem to find the press release from Bombardier but at the mo they are at least 7 months behind schedule.. Found this on the tfl site.. www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/archive/7525.aspxBottom of the page "The first trains are to be delivered at the end of 2008, with the final deliveries at the end of 2010" Well it end of May and 378005 has done it's mileage and now 378007 is next in line.. Found this as well www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/archive/5432.aspx"The order is in addition to the 44 new trains currently being built by Bombardier for London Overground, which are due to enter service on the North London Railway from 2009 and the East London Railway once open in 2010. The extra carriages are due to enter service in early 2011."

Found out at a meeting today that the first train into passenger service will be on Monday 15 June 2009. This thread (http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=23129&page=4 - message 57) suggests the in-service date will now be 29th - or they may have confused it with the Javelins (class 395) which are indeed launching that day. If that is indeed now the launch date, how soon before they are spotted together where the CTRL and NLL are briefly in sight of each other? (Amended to include missing url)

All training on class 378s has been stopped for at least a week, as the units have been grounded due to potential problems with the wheelsets.
This has also affected the latest class 377s which have been withdrawn by FCC.

378015 started it's mileage accumulation last night and did 3 trips to Bletchley and back with no problems.

Have 005 and 007 been modified yet? How much has this 'problem with the wheels' delayed when they will enter service?

378 05 07 & 15 all been modded.. I believe that the issue with the 378 that they use 130mm bearings rather than the 120mm bearings used in other electrostars. The reduced clearance is causing earth return problems with the earth brushes. The solution is to insert an insulating washer. 378015 have carried out 8 trips to Bletchley and is booked to do 3 more tonight (Friday) Dep around 22.30/22.50 heading to Bletchley. 378013 arrived last night and I tucked it away in the shed ;-) Still no set date for service.
