I've noticed there seems to be a sudden increase of 313s on CLJ-SFD Peaks, used to be all 378 a month ago. I've certainly noticed a number of peak-services returning to 313-operation, too.

A few more pics of the units at Chart Leacon at the flickr page down at the bottom there, under the collection heading '378 moves'... With apologies for the quality of some, it was dark & obviously flashes aren't allowed where shunting is going on!

Two 378 circuits were taken out this morning when one failed at West hampstead right in the middle of the peak. I should worked one of these circuits but today the 4 different units i was scheduled to work on were all 313s.

Seems like cab heating is starting to cause a few problems as well ;-) ie the lack of.

Everytime I've seen a 378 on the Richmond branch the guard has been working the train from the rear cab. I thought they were supposed to work them from the passenger saloon?

What time of the day were you travelling and was it during the peak period, more importantly how busy was the train? I for one work inside the train, except when my presence affects the safe operation of the train in other words if the train is full it would be better for me to operate the train from the rear cab.

378136 – 142 all delivered to Ashford, more to come as a minimum of 12 are required by new year, because of contractual obligations for the East London Line testing. Does this mean that 12 units need to be at Ashford by the end of the year, or do they need to be at New Cross Gate by then? We have a total of 16 diagrams for daily Mon – Fri workings on the NLL/WLL – circuits 40/41/43/44/45/46/47/48/49/50/51/53/54/57/58/59. Without making it a very very long email I won’t give you the workings of each!! The following are booked 378 – 40/43/47/51/53/57/58/59 – a total of 8. However they do sometimes stray from the booked circuits, which doesn’t impress our roster managers!! The DC requires 6 units, circuits 42/52/55/56 and the two old 508, now 313 circuits, 70 and 71. These will be 313 until next year due to issues which I can’t go into depth about. This means there are 22 diagrams for the NLL, WLL and DC. 24 class 378/0s were ordered, and that even if all were delivered soon, as 3-car units, there would only be two spare units if all class 313s were replaced. This does not seem to be enough spare units. Also 001 is a pre-production train, and will not be delivered to Willesden for a while (and by the time it is delivered, it might be extended to 4-car and become 378201). Does this mean some class 313s might still be in service on the DC lines when the 4-car class 378/2s start to be delivered?

The 378's seem to have a lot of faults going on here, are they just simply teething issues or is it an issue with the entire fleet?

According to an earlier post by routemasterkeith, the guard is only allowed to work in the rear cab during peak hours or when the train is crowded. As Jim is only ever on the Richmond branch late evenings he should not be seeing the guard in the rear cab!

Diagrams from 13th December expected to be:
10-25 (16) Class 378 (NLL/WLL)
40-45 (6) Class 313 (DC)
60-63 (4) Class 150 (GOB)

If needs be, I'm sure the DC lines could borrow a DC only 378/1, as the whole fleet won't be needed until the Highbury extension opens in 2011.

378004 hauled south from Derby again yesterday evening with informed speculation (jka Yahoo gen groups) that it may have gone to Shoeburyness again. I am attempting to ascertain from a source at Derby (not with Bombardier) whether it travelled as a 4-car unit. Any ideas anyone?

Is it only air conditioning tests that are being done at Shoeburyness, or are there other tests done there? If there are, what are they?

Hooray! Both trains on the WLL today were 378s! Not only that, but there were two LO services (as well as the Southern service) running - instead of the single LO shuttle we usualy get on Sundays.

378143 reported on its way south from Derby this evening. From an outsider's viewpoint, and in the absence of any negative news, it appears that the build-up of rolling stock for the ELL is proceeding nicely.

Does anyone know why 378007 was at Watford Junction this afternoon? I know that they are sometimes stabled there on weekends, but I've never seen a 378 at Watford on a weekday before.

There was a 378 heading south on the DC lines from Harrow this morning at about 2.35am. I was heading the other way with 4M13. It's the first train I've ever seen on the DC lines at this ungodly hour!

It's the first train I've ever seen on the DC lines at this ungodly hour! Slightly off-topic for the thread but... There are two late night / early morning LO services on Sunday mornings, the diagram is 00.22 and 02.00 from Euston and 01.07 from Watford Junction. The last of these should be at Harrow at 02.27 which is pretty much the same time!! The services used to run mainline but changed to DC lines during the WCML rebuild, I believe that they run on behalf of London Midland. They only officially call at Wembley Central and Harrow & Wealdstone en route.
