If the east london line is fully 3rd rail then why not use the clas 508s that have been stored by Soutrh eastern trains til they have enough class 378's?

If enough 378's hadnt been built by June 2010, would we see class 313 units on the ELL? I know the original plan was to refurbish class 319 units and use them, but i assume there are none spare of them. I somehow doubt the 313s could run on the new ELL. Wouldn't they fall foul of various tailored-to-route systems in the same way that so much LU stock cannot now be used on other LU lines apart from the one(s) they're specified for? Whilst I think the 319s would have been a good idea for use on LO, even better would have been the class 458 "Junipers". They're excellent stock and suitable for both inner and outer-suburban working, imo. Wasn't this actualy mooted as an idea at one point when it looked like SWT were going to give up their 458s?

Yes both the 319's and the 458's were proposed to be used.

The easiest option would be to borrow the 378/0's and keep the 313's in service until such time all the 378/1's are delivered...

Do the new trains run certain services or are they just random each day?

So how many 378s have been built and how many are in London? All of the 378/0s have been built, and so have at least three 378/1s. 10 units (005, 007, 008, 010 and 013 - 018) have been delivered to Willesden. Units 005, 007, 008, 013 and 015 - 017 are in service. 378001 is at New Cross Gate for testing on the ELL, and 378137 is at Ashford. All other units are at Derby. i heard that a certain 313 will be heading to Willesden PRDC for warm storage What does PRDC mean? Why would a 313 be withdrawn before the 508s?

PRDC = Princess Royal Distribution Center (the Royal Mail shed). I would imagine that a 313 would be stored first if it is due for works attention, whilst the 508s had some work done earlier in the year to keep them in service when the 378s didn't arrive on time. As the DC line looks likely to be the last line to retain the old stock, it doesn't really matter if they retain the 508s or 313s.

#16 was on the xx:35 Clapden shuttles today, then 313122 took over its place on the 19:35 Clapham-Willesden.
Also it was the first time for me since I went on a 378 since the day they entered service

Not sure if this has been mentioned as this is one superior thread but in the free online digital copy of the Railway Herald they mention the location and whereabouts of ALL Class 378's and give relevant dates.

Today was the first time i had the pleasure (or not) of working a 378 (378016). As a Conductor i am rather bemused by the way members of the public, keep looking at you all the time, so much so i was getting rather paranoid. I was working the busy 08.11 off Stratford today and by Hackney Central i had to take up position in the rear cab, such was the numbers of people traveling.

Should have made them 4 car from the start... In that case, we'd still be waiting for them to be introduced to the North London line, as there is still plenty of work to be done in platform lengthening before 4 car units can run.

Should have made them 4 car from the start... Can the NLL even support 4 cars at all stations, or will we have a london underground like system where the first few doors dont open, wouldn't be too much of a problem considering the easy to walk around new trains!

Now how did I know that this talk of platform lenghts would kick off ;-0 When TfL placed the order in Aug 2006, www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/archive/3534.aspxNetwork Rail should have started planning for 4 cars and not play the waiting game... 3 years down the line and STILL no platform extensions and STILL no FULL 378 fleet running...

They could have taken the opportunity to lengthen the platforms during the umpteen line-closures there've been. But that would have deprived us of the pleasure of further umpteen line closures to look forward to.
