Get a Network Rail Card if you don't qualify for the others. £28 gets you 34% off at weekends and can be used for travelcard purchases. Of course you need to use it enough to recoup the initial outlay. I presume all eng works are off during the Olympics.

I experienced the KX terminators on Sat/Sun, seemed to work ok. But of course the confused looking tourists had to be tipped out. Giving a short destination is still very common on NR, certainly at KX suburban and services into Paddington.

Frustrating though this was, there are quite a few instances of the opposite such as Met drivers at HOTH telling you to cross over for a quicker departure on the other side. Also on the District opening both sides at Barking to let pax accross to the next platform plus both sides open at Morden so you can get through the train to the exit you want.

Not been to the depot weekend for a few years, can you still get tickets from the window or do you have to book in advance? Might go on Sunday if I can get in.

The proposed site is in Newton Aycliffe Co Durham. Previously Hitachi made microwaves there, although of course there is something of a railway tradition in the area. The site would be just off the Stockton/Darlington/Shildon line, not far from the once electrified Clarence Railway which bit the dust in the 60's. Why not have them make trains for LU, the Javelin seems ok to ride on?. Plenty of seats off peak too, wonder if GC2 will end up the same. Whoops, I meant HS2.

Is the rail bridge over the canal still there? I suppose it will get the chop before long as it won't be used for the Croxley Link. Half of the bridge over the canal on the Ricky Church St line survived as it is needed for the Ebury Way path.

This train was back in service at Ealing Broadway on Friday. Seats seemed more comfy than the knakered old red ones anyway.

A pity there are problems sometimes, however for what it's worth I think LU recover well from these situations usually. Take the previous weekend, a defective train at Bkr St - like clockwork pic trains extended to Uxbridge and mets turned back at Ruislip. Passengers hardly notice anything was wrong on the Uxb branch. Worth every penny of my £8.50.

Thanks for the good info. As you say pax will soon get used to the new stop positions.

See the latest RAIL magazine for good photo taken over the station, page 15 I think it is.

Ok, I assume that the four car S stop was moved to allow a second train onto the platform behind and stop at the new signal. What if there is an eight car train behind? Would this be allowed to stop and then wait for the signal to clear and then draw forward, this would be very confusing for passengers. Or am I being a bit thick here?

Veering slightly off topic: Thameslink change over at Farrigdon. I've noticed there is a fourth rail, lower than LUL negative rails. What is the purpose of this?

I was at Farringdon yesterday and had a look round, good progress. I notice the Thameslink southbound has a signal halfway along the platform, this means four car trains whizz past unsuspecting passengers and they have to run after the train. Also I was at Blackfriars and used the new south bank exit, excellent, this makes a big difference.

I was at Metheringham station in September (between Ruskington and Lincoln), the gates seemed to be either powered or wheel operated from the adjacent box. The southbound platform can only be accessed by passengers crossing the track, the departing driver having to tell people to wait before the gates are operated. Expect these types of operation will soon be outlawed.
