I don't think there are any NR services on a Sunday not sure about Saturdays.

It is interesting to read why they fitted hinged doors in the centre of the cars. For some reason they could not produce a curved sliding door and wanted to avoid a step in front of flat doors which could have allowed passengers to surf the train and get killed by the tunnel.

There is something near White City that looks a bit like a turntable pit but I don't think thats what it is. Would be interested to know what it actually is though.

Graham is correct, DO NOT mix sleeping pills and alchohol. One or the other but not both as this can stop you breathing in extreme cases.

So far I've seen the water tanks at Moorgate and the mural thingy on the far wall but couldn't get a close look as the back platform is locked off nowadays. Awaiting the new liveries with baited breath.

I originally looked at Sabre maps 1:25,000 historical OS maps. It appears to be late 1940s. The rail lines are fairly detailed but some sidings are not shown. Could anyone tell me if there is a reason the GW signal box has been retained, it has been disused for twenty years now?

Thanks for confirming that. My father actually worked for the USAF on the site in the early seventies. I was assuming that the rail connection was removed before the Central opened in 1948. Wrong! Looking on wikipedia RAF West Ruislip dated back to the first world war era and was a records office as well as a depot before the US forces took over.

I was looking at an old map which showed some sort of rail connected depot or factory adjacent to W Ruislip station. This is where the USAF base was until recently. Can anyone tell me what this was?

Ditto, though better than headbutting the dangling knob things they had on the old tube stocks.

There's a strong smell of urine in the west passage over the lines between p5&6 at Baker Street. It is of course actual urine deposited by caring passengers late in the evening. Not sure if the Gents near p5 is closed when they do it or not.

I assume this did not happen, the only A Stocks I saw were parked up at Neasden. The Cravens inspection train was there too. I was around for part of the day at Amersham, overheard some rumours that Steam on the Met could be making a comeback. Could be tosh of course.

The plan is to subcontract the Greenford branch to Chiltern probably. Of course with HS2 due to run through Greenford low level things could be a bit more complicated around there. A bay would be installed at West Ealing apparently, which would mean having to change there for Paddington etc.

I think that spur went onto a loading ramp where military vehicles were unloaded in what is now Deal Avenue. It would have been standard not narrow. I think it was mentioned in the Isherwood book though I have mislaid my copy. The maps seem to have been updated in a haphazard manor at times. Deal Ave was not built until perhaps the late seventies. I think the book mentions a temporary track to the north which was used for rubbish dumping.

Anyone know what the problem was yesterday morning? We were turfed out at Piccadilly Circus due to an "issue with the track" at about 10:45. All southbound trains were reversing there it seems. Everthing was back to normal a couple of hours later.

I noted an S Stock test train on the eastbound circle at Baker St on Weds morning about 10.30. Didn't get the number as I was in a rush.

I recently noted a Hillingdon destination blind on the back of an A stock running through Great Portland Street. When is/was this used?

The bus is mainly for those requiring Amersham and stations to Stoke Mandeville. Aylesbury passengers are better served by Aylesbury via High Wycombe/P Risborough trains.

The Barking bound C Stock I was on was terminated at Moorgate at about 12:30 yesterday due to signal failure in the Barking area. We were put into plat 4 and there was already a C in plat 3. They were'nt going anywhere fast when I left.

I have been on the GOBLIN 172s once and was not really impressed, especially with the bodged exhaust system running through a conduit inside the train. However, Chiltern now have some of these units (with an external exhaust), and I find they ride very well. Of course the route is totally different.

Parts of the 72 stock will be much older, I'm led to believe some of the shunt control panels are ex 38ts.
